JazzTimes Magazine is presenting, in two parts, a previously unpublished interview with the late Charles Mingus. Alto saxophonist and Mingus band member Charles McPherson was also present. In a music collection inherited from his friend Erik Mossel, Blues & Gospel Historian, Guido van Rijn, found a tape with an unpublished interview that Erik conducted with Charles Mingus before his concert in Loosdrecht, The Netherlands, on August 12, 1972. Guido transcribed the interview and it is now published for the first time. Find part I in an earlier post; here is part II. https://shorturl.at/dAMbM

Phenomenal headlining Charlottesville Jazz Festival concert at The Paramount Theater of Charlottesville on Saturday night, June 6, 2026. John D'earth and the "aggregate" Cville All Stars heated up the stage for Veronica Swift who set it on fire. Her mother, Stephanie Nakasian, joined her for an encore that brought the audience to their feet (and not for the first time that night). Congratulations to the Charlottesville Jazz Society for putting on such a successful home-grown festival of local Jazz greats. WTJU is proud to be a co-sponsor. And it's not over. Today, Sunday, June 7, has a whole lot more:
10am-4pm Founder's Brunch at The Bradbury featuring Royce Campbell Trio at Vault Virginia (12-2pm). At 4pm Ali Webb & Friends have an Album Release at the Guild at Vault VA (4pm). Not to be missed is the final jam at Miller's Downtown (6pm).
