Sexual Assault Resource Agency
SARA provides support to all survivors of sexual violence and prevention programs to the community.
SARA works with the City of Charlottesville, and Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson Counties. We also occasionally serve survivors from a broader regional area (for example Buckingham County) because we may be the closest rape crisis center or because they may need to come to UVA hospital. We don't charge for our services, and while we do receive grant funding, this does not cover all

What a sweet month April is! Emerging from the winter into a community in bloom. We feel so thankful to have you all here with us. 🌸 Read the full newsletter here: https://www.saracville.org/post/april-newsletter
Our team collaborated on this newsletter - sharing resources, upcoming events, and meaningful ways to get involved in our work to eliminate sexual violence and its impacts in our communities.
Throughout April, there are many opportunities to connect with SARA and some of our partners in this work, including a joint open house with Foothills Children's Advocacy Center, Simcoe for SARA beer releases, and a Silent Disco at Tom Tom.
We also share articles and resources - hoping our professional development and self care practices can be helpful to you too.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a wonderful time to engage with SARA while bringing attention to our shared vision of a community free from sexual violence.

💌 Jacqueline (SARA's Advocacy Manager) shared a reflection with staff and volunteers this week on what she believes we all strive for in our interactions with family, friends, colleagues, and survivors.
“Allow your heart to be a sanctuary for others, empowering them to feel at ease and cherished.” – John O’Donohue.
🗣️ Jacqueline says, "John O'Donohue has been on my mind this month, as I needed to be reminded of beauty and have craved the comfort of someone's hopeful perspective on humanity. The core of this work holds so much meaning. I think it is helpful to be reminded of how essential we all are in supporting someone through the worst of times."
