✨ Meet Luigie Barrera, one of our 26–27 Season Company Artists! ✨
We’re excited to welcome Luigie back for his second season with us! Originally from the Philippines, Luigie began training in ballet, contemporary, modern, and folk dance at age 13. He went on to become a finalist at NAMCYA, win the ABAP Competition, and earn multiple Honors and Distinction Awards from the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet.
At 19, he joined Ballet Philippines, performing soloist roles including Toy Soldier in "The Nutcracker," Franz in "Coppélia," and Lankendem in "Le Corsaire," while also taking on leading roles in contemporary works such as "Payaso Blanco," and was the 2nd runner-up in the CCP ballet competition in 2018. In 2023, he was scouted as a soloist with Springfield Ballet Company before joining Dissonance Dance Theatre as Dance Artist, Junior Ballet Master, and Rehearsal Associate.
In addition to performing, Luigie is passionate about teaching and mentorship, working with dancers and schools across the Philippines to share his artistry and love for dance. We can’t wait to see all he brings to the stage this season!
Luigie’s 2025-26 season performances were generously sponsored by Martin & Katina Harkless and Susan Proctor.

Performance season is here ✨
From the necessities — tights, shoes, and n**e leos — to backstage favorites like recital robes, plush wraps, and trashbag pants 🩰💖 My Dance Shoppe of Cville has so many of the essentials our dancers reach for all season long.
We’re excited to partner with My Dance Shoppe and support a local dancewear store that helps keep our dancers performance-ready, comfortable, and confident!
Come with us behind the scenes of Charlottesville Ballet’s strategic planning journey ✨
From community feedback sessions to hands-on strategic planning workshops powered by Spill Teem, this spring has been all about listening, learning, and dreaming forward together.
Facilitated by Joshue René, our board and staff dove deep into YOUR feedback and the hundreds of insights gathered through our community-led survey. Every conversation, idea, and perspective helped shape the vision for Charlottesville Ballet’s future.
This is what human-centered design looks like and we’re deeply grateful to every person who shared their voice, ideas, and hopes with us along the way.
The future is being built together. 🩰
