A few weeks ago, I shared something that has been weighing on me for a while:

People aren’t just eating differently…
…they’re gathering differently too.

Lunch became rushed.
Dinner became “maybe later.”
And somewhere along the way, too many moments around the table started disappearing.

So when we said Matchbox was going to fight back for community this summer…
…we meant it.

This is our first commitment to that message.

AFTER 6 YEARS OF MATCHBOX AT The Shops at Stonefield...

This is Maurice at Matchbox.

From day 1, we worked on answering a simple question:

How do you create a restaurant that feels easy for everyday life and makes you want to come be among community again and again?

Our original answer…

…was to start with 🔥.

Built for us in Italy, our pizza ovens anchor a central pizza bar at the heart of the restaurant, a place designed for the community to gather. We added a friendly bar as a gathering point, and brought Charlottesville’s personality into the space. BUT…

…recently, something has happened to many restaurants in our town…

People started to disconnect from eating out and from being with others:

* Takeout grew, yes
* Delivery also has risen

But date night, family dinners, office gatherings, after game meetups…

…they have faded and community has felt more frayed as a result.

So, Matchbox is bringing community back to the table.

Watch us this summer as we build solutions for your dine-out life, your escape-from-routine moments, your spend-some-quality-time meals and so on.

Matchbox has always been about building something meaningful for the community. Now, we’re doubling down on being there for the moments that matter most.
