As a private cosmetology school owner, I recognized that there was a need in our underserved communities for individuals that wanted to legitimize their talents but did not have the funds to do so. As a long-time member of the Charlotte beauty community I am pained by the talents that I see and the individuals are unable to create job opportunities for themselves because they either cannot afford to attend school or do not qualify for federal financial aid. I created Skill Builders Institute in 2015 to provide financial resources to such individuals. SBI works with select Beauty, Barber and Trade schools that do not offer traditional financial aid to create scholarship and internship opportunities for individuals to be able to earn tuition dollars to further their education. The Beauty & Barber Icon awards Gala will be the first annual fundraiser to help these individuals. I’m reaching out to our community leaders , buiness owners & steak holders for sponsorship and donations . The gala is Sunday April 21st 6pm.
