The Man Behind Grok’s New Face – Jon Vio and the Black Hole That Swallowed the Old Logo.

Jon Vio, a digital artist and multi-planetary identity designer, created the new Grok logo in early 2025. The sleek black-and-white mark centers on a stylized "G" formed by a luminous accretion disk, embodying the concept of singularity and drawing inspiration from the mystery and immense power of a black hole, echoing cinematic visuals like Gargantua from Interstellar. Vio collaborated closely with the xAI team, whose input shaped key cosmic elements, and credited his friend Ebby Amir for trust and support in the opportunity. The result is a minimalist yet dynamic identity that aligns with Grok's mission to understand the universe, replacing prior versions with a more profound, living symbol of infinite potential and deep exploration.

Chermayeff & Geismar revolutionized corporate identity in 1964 with their minimalist redesign for Mobil. Moving away from the traditional Pegasus illustration, Ivan Chermayeff and Tom Geismar created a clean, sans-serif wordmark that epitomised modernism. The design’s most striking feature is the vibrant red "o," which serves a triple purpose: it ensures correct pronunciation as "Mo-bil," provides a memorable focal point, and mirrors the circular architecture of the company’s service stations. This bold use of geometry and colour transformed the brand into a global icon of clarity and efficiency, remaining virtually unchanged for over sixty years.

The iconic Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star symbolizes the brand's ambition for universal motorization, representing dominance over land, sea, and air. Originally inspired by a postcard sent by Gottlieb Daimler, the logo achieved its modern, minimalist form in 1933 after the 1926 merger of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft and Benz & Cie. The design is a masterpiece of geometric precision, utilizing a strict grid system and 120-degree symmetry to project elegance and technical superiority.

Mercedes-Benz, headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany, is a global leader in luxury automobiles. The company’s heritage traces back to Carl Benz, who built the first internal combustion engine car in 1886, and Gottlieb Daimler. Since their historic merger, the firm has remained at the forefront of automotive innovation, pioneering safety features and high-performance engineering. Today, the company continues to redefine mobility through its focus on electrification, digital integration, and sustainable luxury.
