“why do i choose to photograph couples?” is a question i get often. (if you know me, especially growing up — you know this does not seem like the niche i’d voluntarily choose.)
when i was younger, i was never the sentimental type or the girl who dreamed and obsessed over fairytales and love stories. (i was more so the girl who played sports on all boys teams and never wanted to lose a competition) — but as i’ve gotten older, i’ve seen firsthand the reflection of God that shines through a couple and their love for each other. (i have two amazing parents to thank for this).
over time, as i’ve grown in my faith, i’ve grown to love the idea of capturing what God’s love looks like in us every day.
my heart for this doesn’t come from trying to make a couple look like a “prince & princess” or a “storybook romance.” (news flash — i’m still not that kind of girl). i love what i do because i feel closer to God and His intentional blessings in people’s lives through it. i have the opportunity to pause a moment in time for two people who are starting a new life together. praise God.
marriage is a covenant — a blessing that God personally and graciously designed for us with purpose. it’s easy to get lost in the idea of marriage, the house, the kids, the romance, the dates, and all the things that come with a relationship, but what does God say about it?
Ephesians 5:21 tells us to, “submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” — keywords: “FOR CHRIST.”
marriage is a reflection of the way God loves us. God designed marriage. not nicholas sparks. not walt disney. my God.
so when you see my photos on your feed or story, i don’t want you to think about a scene from the notebook or the summer i turned pretty. i want you to see how God shines through the images & more importantly, how the people in them reflect His love.
so to sum things up, this is why i photograph couples. not for the fairytale image but for the glory of God.
as my bio already says, my art is made to be “a reflection of God’s heart”
