Metamorphosis, Stillness, Intensity: Butoh Dance and the Triptych | New Frequencies at McColl Center Butoh dance was born out of the trauma of post-World War II Japan. Young performers created a new form that broke free of the restraints of Noh and Kabuki while still drawing on Japanese traditions.
