At the Cove House, interior finishes designed by W. Scott Carter are currently being installed. The exterior siding and paint have been finished, and we are happy with how the building's shape harmoniously integrates with the natural terrain. The rooms are taking on a relaxed, lake-inspired ambiance with a distinctive contemporary flair. More design flair to come! 🎨

Following the completion of the renovation, our clients have moved in and are delighting in their custom-crafted spaces. The thorough rebuild incorporated higher ceilings, a new en-suite, and a generously sized screened porch overlooking the greenway. We worked closely with the clients to design the interior finishes, and they displayed a keen eye for selecting materials that authentically expressed the casual modern cottage style. Bravo!👏

Last year, we had the opportunity to design a series of smaller, custom homes—each thoughtfully tailored to its unique site - island, cove & mountain. These homes were deeply informed by context: shaped by zoning regulations, setback requirements, and the character of their surrounding neighborhoods. Every layout and form emerged from a careful study of place.

Window placements were strategically considered to frame specific views while maintaining privacy and buffering less desirable outlooks. Each home was designed to respond organically to its landscape, settling into its environment with intention.

Special attention was given to the approach and entry sequence, enhancing the experience of arrival. These are just a few of the many elements we carefully consider when designing custom homes—always guided by the nuances of site, setting, and story.🏠

We wanted to design a weekend lake house that retained the 'camp' of the old house that the extended family enjoyed over the years. The site is on the tip of an island but the buildable area is long and thin so we oriented the short end towards the water and placed all the living areas, indoor & out, facing the view.

We're so happy to share our Charlotte Silo House Renovation was selected for awards from two national award competitions, The Chrysalis Awards and the magazine Qualified Remodeler's Master Design Awards. 🙌

The Chrysalis Awards are open to every professional remodeler and design professional in the United States. The entries were judged on overall design, the creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure.

The Master Design Awards is a premier national contest recognizing outstanding achievement in residential remodeling projects. Entries are judged on aesthetic appeal, construction techniques, handling of unusual situations, attention to detail, functionality of space and overall impression of the project. The project earned a Bronze Award.

Here are some before/after photos to show the change! 🔨🪚

Closing in on the completion of a new home that replaces an aged rental property. Our approach was to design a home that fit into the neighborhood and complemented the original streetscape. Occupying a corner lot, we thought it was important to add dimension and detail to all sides and to keep the second story only in the middle. Inside, the plan is open with vaulted spaces, a breakfest nook, loft and dog wash! 🐶 More to come…woof!
