A Big congratulations to Trinity Brigmon and Ayomide Ojumola on receiving the Changemaker Award at the Canvas for Climate Project 2026 for their powerful artwork, A Divided World!

Their award-winning project challenged audiences to envision a more equitable future and inspired action through creativity, leadership, and environmental advocacy. We are incredibly proud to see these young leaders recognized for their hard work, vision, and commitment to change.

This achievement is a testament to the power of community connections and youth leadership. Through SOL Nation's Summer Ambassador Program, Trinity and Ayomide gained opportunities to deepen their understanding of environmental justice, connect with local leaders, and develop the skills needed to create meaningful impact. Their success reflects the heart of our Sovereignty in Practice pillar—equipping community members with the knowledge, resources, and opportunities to lead solutions that strengthen their communities.

We are grateful for the partnerships that helped make this opportunity possible and proud to have played a role in supporting these incredible young changemakers. The future is bright, and Trinity and Ayomide are helping lead the way.

“Too Much Monkey Business” by Chuck Berry captures the fast pace, frustration, and everyday realities of working-class life with sharp storytelling and undeniable rhythm. As one of the pioneers who helped shape rock and roll, Chuck Berry brought the influence of Black musical traditions into a genre that would change global music forever.

This Black Music Month, we recognize how Black artists like Chuck Berry used music to reflect real life, push creative boundaries, and influence generations of musicians across every genre. “Too Much Monkey Business” stands as a reminder that Black music has always been innovative, expressive, and deeply connected to the lived experiences of the community. 🎸🖤

June 1 marked the beginning of hurricane season, a reminder that climate disasters are no longer distant possibilities—they are realities that many communities face every year. From hurricanes and floods to power outages and extreme weather, preparation can make the difference between crisis and resilience.

That's why SOL Nation is launching our Climate Disaster Preparedness & Response Program, where participants can become certified Community Responders and gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to support themselves, their families, and their neighbors before, during, and after climate-related emergencies.

This work reflects our Sovereignty in Practice pillar, which centers the everyday conditions required for resilience. Community preparedness is about more than emergency supplies—it's about ensuring people have the resources, relationships, and collective care needed to stay safe and recover together. When communities are prepared, connected, and supported, they are better positioned to exercise power, protect one another, and build sustainable futures.
Climate resilience starts long before disaster strikes. Join us in building stronger, safer, and more sovereign communities.

June is Sovereignty in Practice 💪🏾

This month, SOL Nation is highlighting Sovereignty in Practice—the everyday actions that help communities sustain themselves, care for one another, and build resilience in the face of environmental challenges. True sovereignty is more than a vision for the future; it's how we prepare, respond, and show up for our communities today.

That's why we're launching our Climate Disaster Preparedness & Response Program, equipping community members with practical tools and knowledge to navigate climate-related emergencies with confidence and care. We'll also close out the month with our Community Clean Up at Archive CLT, putting collective care into action by creating cleaner, healthier spaces for everyone.

Want to stay connected to the work? Be sure to subscribe to the SOL Nation newsletter. A new edition drops this month, featuring community updates, upcoming events, stories of impact, and opportunities to get involved.

Join us this June as we put sovereignty into practice and continue building thriving, resilient communities together.

Preparation is more than a checklist—it’s how we care for ourselves and each other before, during, and after crisis.
SOL Nation’s Climate Disaster Preparedness & Response Program is part of our Sovereignty in Practice pillar—centering the everyday conditions our communities need to stay grounded, supported, and resilient. Because the truth is, we can’t build power or long-term change if we’re navigating emergencies without the tools, care, or preparation to move through them safely.

From extreme weather to power outages, this program offers practical knowledge, real-world resources, and trauma-informed guidance to help you prepare ahead of time, respond with confidence, and support your community in moments that matter most.

Through a three-part workshop series, participants will gain access to planning tools, local resource networks, and strategies that can be applied immediately—whether for your household or your neighborhood. You’ll also have the opportunity to earn a Preparedness & Community Responder Certificate, with an advanced designation for those who complete all sessions.

This is what Sovereignty in Practice looks like—prioritizing wellness, preparedness, and collective care as essential, not optional.

Join us in building communities that are ready, resourced, and rooted in care—so no one has to navigate climate challenges alone.

A heartfelt thank you to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina for sponsoring this year's Bloom Into Action: Ladies First 🌸

We are grateful for Blue Cross NC continued commitment to building healthier, stronger communities across North Carolina. Their purpose-driven work to address the state's most pressing health challenges and create long-term, sustainable change aligns deeply with SOL Nation's vision of thriving, sovereign communities.

This partnership is especially meaningful because it builds on a relationship that began in 2023, when BCBSNC partnered with SOL Nation to support community-centered solutions and advance health equity. Together, we share a belief that lasting change happens when communities are empowered with the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive.

Join us as we celebrate culture, community, and the women creating pathways for change.
