I am an Afro-Puerto Rican Public Historian.
I uncover hidden figures and events lost to time with a focus on The history of marginalized communities and communities of color.
We are taught the American Revolution.
We are taught the French Revolution.
But the Haitian Revolution is often treated like a footnote.
That omission is not accidental.
Congressman Clyburn is the only black congressman for South Carolina and is the fiirst in 95 years after reconstruction. His seat is at risk of being gerrymandered to favor republicans.
FAFO 🤷🏿‍♂️
William Casby was born into ensalvement in 1857 and died in 1970. These images were take by Richard Avendon.
George Wallace was an American politician best known for serving four terms as governor of Alabama and for becoming one of the most recognizable defenders of segregation during the Civil Rights Movement. Born in 1919 in Clio, Alabama, Wallace rose to national prominence after declaring, “Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever” during his 1963 inaugural address as governor. He became a symbol of Southern resistance to desegregation and federal civil rights enforcement.
Wallace is also remembered for the 1963 “Stand in the Schoolhouse Door” at the University of Alabama, where he attempted to block Black students from enrolling in compliance with federal desegregation orders. Although largely symbolic, the moment became one of the defining images of opposition to the Civil Rights Movement.
Today is still officially recognized as Confederate Memorial Day in parts of the American South.
But this video isn’t just about a holiday.
It’s about how the ideology behind the Confederacy survived the Civil War and adapted through Reconstruction backlash, Jim Crow laws, the Southern Strategy, attacks on the Voting Rights Act, and modern redistricting battles across the South.
Most people have seen this photo.
Very few know the name of the man behind the camera.
Moneta Sleet Jr. wasn’t just a photographer. He was one of the most important documentarians of the Civil Rights Movement, capturing the grief, humanity, and intimate moments of the King family in ways few others ever could.
This Pulitzer Prize-winning image of Coretta Scott King after Dr. King’s assassination became one of the defining photographs of American history. But the man who took it remains largely unsung.
History isn’t only preserved by the people making speeches.
It’s also preserved by the people brave enough to document the truth.

An Alabama GOP leader said
"All we need now is the courts to overturn 14 and we can look at elections..."
This was in reference to the 14th Amendment. The Amendment that gave black people in America citizenship. It was expanded to give citizenship to everyone born in the United States AKA "Birthright Citizenship". The republican party wants to eliminate the entire 14th Amendment in order to dissolve entire voting bases and create a new class of citizen in America.
They want to bring back life under Dred Scott. A time where the Supreme Court said that there were "No rights that the White Man was bound to respect"
Is South Carolina the "Deep South " ?
