“MARIPOSA!” my twins shouted!!

Nothing is more rewarding than to hear your kids shout out a new Spanish word in a real situation that you know you’ve taught them!

Right now all of the Monarch butterflies are starting to return to Mexico, and when we saw one ourselves it was Mágico!!

In the comments I am putting in my favorite book/song about this that you can share with your kids!! Warning: it’s a catchy tune!

Why does learning a second language really matter? How can it help our kids become bridge builders?

Elisabeth Alvarado of "Spanish Mama" shares there's an empathy that's gained in the struggle of sharing languages.

It changes us. It changes our kids.

What is 'magical' about speaking a new language? You make connections with REAL PEOPLE. Real stories. New friendships.

This week I spoke with Paola of the Catholic Homeschool Podcast all about helping your kids see beyond themselves this summer, by learning Spanish and using it to CONNECT. As a mom who has both homeschooled and public schooled, I know that family language learning is possible for EVERY family... even if you aren't yet fluent.

TRAVEL INTERNATIONAL AT HALF PRICE
It’s crazy to think that 3 years ago, I had packed 7 suitcases, 2 car seats and a stroller to fly internationally for the first time with all 5 of our kids.

Traveling through Spain for a month was amazing, but it came with a lot of stresses.

Including the initial sticker shock, could we AFFORD IT?

I still remember when we made the first-- and most expensive-- purchase of the trip:

The airfare.

Gulp! There’s no going back!

What many people don’t realize is traveling for half-price actually gives you a 100% more authentic cultural experience.

I want more families to know how they can travel cheap, while not skimping on awesome experiences.

I SHARE ALL IN THE FREE ½ PRICE INTERNATIONAL GUIDE

👏These are just a few of the golden nuggets you’ll discover that will help you make international travel possible for you:

🙋I don't play the airline miles game for international travel. With flights to Europe typically costing 60,000-100,000 miles per trip, that would be more than half a million miles for my family! Read what we do to save thousands of dollars on flights.
💲 We cut costs by staying at Air B and Bs and with friends. Not only does it make travel more affordable, it is culturally immersive and we use the language more with locals.

Comment or DM us if you would like the guide! I’m going LIVE on our page at 7:30 pm EST/GMT-4 tonight, to share more and answer your questions! Follow us to make sure your notified when I go live!

The to-do list was waiting, but 75 degree weather on an early March Sunday afternoon was calling me.

I needed to exercise.

My son was bent over his new Pokemon cards on the floor, reorganizing them for the ninth time. I knew he needed some sunshine too.

So I took him out…

To bike with me.

Pedalling with ‘mi hijo’ (my son) is so fun. He doesn’t particularly pull his weight, but he does ask me all sorts of great questions during our ride.

It made me think a lot about taking my kids along for this language learning ride.

There is really is no time for me to take a full out course.

I realized several years ago, it is actually quite fun learning alongside my kids.

And I just incorporate phrases into our everyday habits.

Does family responsibilities keep you from working on your goal to learn a second language?

I created this handy “Speak Spanish Everyday Guide.” It is literally the step by step approach I took to incorporate Spanish into my everyday life with my kids.

Actor Who Played Luis On 'Sesame Street' For 45 Years Dies 03/11/2022

A wonderful tribute to a leader who showed how diversity can be embraced in our communities.

Actor Who Played Luis On 'Sesame Street' For 45 Years Dies The actor and singer became an integral part of the childhood of generations of children, and for Latino kids a rare character that looked like them.

I BOUGHT A 1-WAY TICKET TO MEXICO

I’m leaving my husband, 5 kids and all my responsibilities for a new life with a latin lover.

Not quite.

I did however buy flights for six of us to Guardalajara, Mexico…

with no plans on coming back home.

Gotcha again.

I do have some legit cool news. My family and I will be spending a month in Mexico this summer visiting families from our program and meeting with potential partner schools!

I could not be more EXCITED… and more nervous!

It’s the first time we’ve traveled as a family internationally since 2019. It’s also the first time I’ll be presenting our program in-person-- and all in Spanish!

So with this, comes a need for practice! I have a goal to get very fluent with communicating about our program during the next 100 days before our trip.

A lot of people wonder how they can actually become conversational in a language.

They feel like marbles are in their mouth the moment they try to speak.

They feel stupid about making mistakes.

I’ve learned that by speaking the language at home with my family… and then language exchanging with local and online friends, I’ve made real progress and gotten over a lot of the fearfulness that typically accompanies communicating in a foreign language.

Move over DuoLingo amigo 😉

I’m now challenging myself to get to a higher level so I feel confident presenting in a professional environment. How? Through my ‘100 Days of Language Exchange!!’

I’ll be language exchanging atleast 3 times a week during the next 3 months, and I want you to tag along on my journey so you can see what’s possible for you!

I’ll be documenting it on my Youtube channel Learn with Me Languages, so please join me!

Really… go to Youtube now and search Learn with Me Languages and click subscribe.

The first video will be posted next week.

You will not only see how traveling and speaking a second language is possible for you… but I’ll also share all of my secrets and shortcuts for your benefit!

P.S. This is a photo of my 2nd language exchange during the challenge. An exchange partner had to cancel last minute, so I treated my husband to a lunch where we spoke all in Spanish…

And ate burgers.

How American 🙂

P.S. Why the one-way ticket to Mexico? We’re flying back to the states through Dallas.

Sometimes we question our efforts in trying to give you kids a second language 🙋‍♀️ Are we doing enough? Could I even be messing them up? But research shows that bilingualism development has a ‘silent period.’ So if you aren’t seeing immediate ‘output’ don’t despair!! Success comes after the silence!
