This week’s sermon comes from 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8 as Paul shifts into his final section in the letter. Paul now moves to his first topic of conversation as to what he believes is vital to their continued growth: their sexuality. Which begs the question for us: Where do we rank our sexuality on the scale of importance as it pertains to our walk with Christ? What we’ll see in this text is that Paul takes something we usually keep ‘private’ and brings to the forefront of conversation as it pertains to their continued growth and holiness.

THE PEOPLE EVERY GROWING CHRISTIAN NEEDS

Jesus taught the crowds, sent out the 72, walked closely with the 12, and pulled 3 in tight. His circles kept getting smaller on purpose.

He invested in a few so that the masses could be saved. Paul did the same thing, dealing with people one by one, name by name, the way it still works today.

Who are 3 people for you that you are investing in? Write their names down. If you can't name them, pray and ask God to put a few on your heart.

You need a Paul, someone a little further down the road than you, who helps you take your next step with Jesus.

Then there's a Barnabas, a mutual encourager near your same age and stage.

And a Timothy, someone younger in the faith you can pour into.

Which of these are missing for you right now?

"Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker!" (Psalm 95:6, ESV)

Gentleness isn't the absence of power. It's power that chooses not to use itself at others' expense.

"This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 118:24, ESV)

This Sunday, we continue our series, First Thessalonians: Enduring Hope in Unstable Times and look at 1 Thess. 3:11-13. Love isn’t meant to be contained, it’s meant to overflow. As Paul closes chapter 3, he breaks into spontaneous prayer for the Thessalonian believers. He prays that their love would abound for one another, and for everyone. This overflowing love, he says, is what prepares us for the return of Christ. It’s the defining mark of a true Christian. The question is simple: how well does love characterize our lives and our church?

WHY GOD ISN'T IMPRESSED BY WHAT EVERYONE ELSE SEES

God is testing you, and He alone tests the heart. He's the only One who truly sees what's driving it.

Genuine faith aims to please Him rather than the people watching. You're living for an audience of one rather than the applause of the room.

Whatever you're carrying, you didn't earn it. It was entrusted to you. That puts you in front of one judge who stands above every human crowd.

Real life is where this lands: how you parent, how you work, and how you talk about your faith with a neighbor.

Every believer runs into the same question, not only the ones who teach or lead: am I doing this for praise or for God?

"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." (Hebrews 10:24-25, ESV)
