Wednesday was a great time for WVABLE at the 2026 Statewide Secondary Transition Conference where we are making new connections with educators, professionals, and school administrators from across the state - sharing about the critical benefits of WVABLE. It was especially great to reconnect with Brittany Garrison, Special Education Director of Brooke County. She stopped by our WVABLE table to pick up 2026 WVABLE Tri-Fold brochures that will be shared with the families and students at IEP meetings in her county.

A big thanks to Brittany as well as the attendees who stopped by our table to learn about WVABLE, sign up for our newsletter, and gather program brochures and items they plan to share with ABLE eligible students and families.

On Wednesday, WVABLE joined the leadership, regional coordinators, and members of the WV Family Support State Council Quarterly Meeting to provide an overview of the WVABLE program to include 2026 updates including new incentives and enhanced features to make financial growth easier for eligible individuals and families.

The Family Support Program is administered by West Virginia Department of Human Services, Bureau for Behavioral Health and provides individual services and supports to families who have a member with a developmental disability living at home.

A big thanks to Steve Brady and Pam Ingram for the invitation and to all the attendees for your partnership in helping to inform and spread program awareness to the ABLE eligible individuals and families.

Today, the WVABLE team is remembering Kevin Smith, a dedicated advocate for people with disabilities who passed away earlier this month. Kevin was instrumental in helping launch West Virginia’s ABLE program in 2018. He also served on numerous local boards and councils to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities. We cherish Kevin’s memory and are forever grateful for his invaluable contributions, leadership, and dedication.

We recently teamed up with WV F2F and P4P Programs Circle of Parents Support Group to share how a WVABLE account helps families build financial security without losing vital benefits like SSI and Medicaid!

Here are a few game-changing benefits we covered:

💰 Save Past Limits: Save and invest above the imposed $2,000 asset limit.
💳 Easy Access: Use the STABLE Visa Prepaid Debit Card for qualified expenses that support your child's independence.
🎁 E-Gifting: Family and friends can easily contribute with the E-Gift feature, and those contributions generally do not count as income for means-tested benefits.

A big thank you to Alyssa Flowers, and Tina Crook both Parent Network Specialists of PFP, F2F, for the invite and valuable partnership! 🤝✨
