Five Lowcountry restaurants have landed a spot on Eater Carolinasโ€™ best restaurant meal of 2021 list, including The Ordinary, Wild Common + Pink Bellies. ๐Ÿด
Iโ€™ve spent a lot of time traveling the U.S. in the past 2 years, so it only seems right that I highlight some of my favorite destinations. Letโ€™s get started with Charleston!

WHERE TO STAY, EAT & PLAY IN CHARLESTON, SC (and of course where to sip โ˜บ๏ธ)

If I had to pick one southern city besides New Orleans to live in it would be Charleston. Charleston has food, history, and charm in spades. It also happens to be close to beaches, some of the best golf in the country, and itโ€™s one of the few destinations where you can experience Gullah culture.

Iโ€™m sharing just a few of my recommendations for how you can spend a day in Charleston!

Stay: Charleston Place, A Belmond Hotel is the perfect mix of high-touch, old school Southern charm, and elegance. The City View Suites are my favorite rooms at the hotel for two reasons. Theyโ€™re corner suites which always adds a little square footage, and they have floor to ceiling windows so you can people watch all of the happenings on King Street.

Eat: Obsessed does not describe how I feel about places like 167 Raw Oyster Bar - Charleston, The Ordinary, and Leon's Oyster Shop. From the vibe, to the service, to the menu itself these restaurants will have you in a happy food coma in no time. And when you canโ€™t eat one more southern staple head to Circe's Grotto for some of the best sandwiches in town.

Play: Wander through Charleston City Market and pick up a handmade sweetgrass basket from a local artisan. Pop into Candlefish for a class on candle making class. Then see what events or tours the Historic Charleston Foundation is offering. The advocacy organization has worked with historic houses like Aiken-Rhett House and Nathaniel Russell House tell historically accurate stories of these homes, including those of the enslaved. If you feel like no vacation is complete without a trip to the beach, youโ€™re just 22 minutes to Folly Beach.

Sip: Bin 152 is Charlestonโ€™s oldest wine bar and has an astonishing 40 different wines by the glass.

The Cocktail Club has a serious speakeasy vibe and a menu full of classic cocktails and new innovations.

*Save this post* for when you need a visit to the Holy City!

Now tell me... whatโ€™s your favorite Charleston spot? And if youโ€™ve never been which of these ideas sounds like your kind of vacation?
We saved the best for lastโ€ผ๏ธ
A foodie I trust shared that The Ordinary was the best food in Charleston, and Iโ€™m here to CONFIRM. Itโ€™s the food Iโ€™ve been taking about constantly since we got back.
First, โ€œmartini serviceโ€ with vermouth steeped in oyster shells & seaweed so the ocean flavor came through in every sip. I only want โ€œmartini serviceโ€ from now on. ๐Ÿคฃ
First plate - the zucchini carpaccio with grana Padano cheese, pine nuts, basil & mint.
Next, raw and โ€œdressedโ€ oysters. I was skeptic about fruit & mint on raw seafood but clearly I was dead wrong. So, so flavorful - herbaceous, sweet, vinegary and the brine of the oyster was magic. My favorite bite of the night!
Next, an oyster slider bahn mi-style. I wished I had room for more than half of one, but I was delighted Big shared once I tasted it!
A rich, dark spicy gumbo for me and fish & clam chowder for him. Both were so refined and elegant, yet seriously deep in flavor.
Lastly, we shared the local bbq shrimp dish - and justโ€ฆ wow.

This was beautiful, elegant, delicious Southern fare. They took the cuisine to a whole other level, and I will recommend this to anyone traveling to Charleston so I can live vicariously through them until our next visit!

After 6 years of service (4 as the Chef de Cuisine), We are proud to announce, the talented and very organized @torischu, has been promoted to Executive Chef of The Ordinary! It has been our promise to ourselves and our employees that we want everyone in our company to emerge from the COVID19 pandemic in a better place than before all this mess began.
