***BURN BAN***
The South Carolina Forestry Commission is issuing a State Forester’s Burning Ban for all counties, effective at 7 a.m. Friday, April 17.
A State Forester’s Burning Ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including yard debris burning, prescribed burning, campfires, bonfires and other recreational fires in all unincorporated areas of the state.
Forestry Commission officials cite a particularly dangerous mix of elevated wildfire risk factors through the weekend that warrant limiting all ignitions in the interest of public safety.
Rapidly escalating drought conditions across the state, a critical decrease in relative humidities over the next several days and gusty winds that are expected to accompany an approaching cold front will combine to create extreme fire danger.

Proud join other Represenatives to recognize one of Charleston County & South Carolina’s best and brightest today at the Statehouse. Jenna Huggins, graduate of Lucy Beckham HS, a junior at Clemson and the current Miss Clemson 2026. Jenna is a rising star in SC, focused on service to others above self. Of course, it should not be a surprise to anyone in light of the amazing leader her mother, Anita Huggins, is for Charleston County Schools.

Wishing all who celebrate a safe and happy Easter Sunday!
Today I introduced legislation to block any increases in electric or natural gas rates for 1 year.
I have heard from so many of you that are struggling to afford your existing power bills and, like me, are outraged at the thought of yet another increase being requested.
If you agree that enough is enough, make your voice heard.

River Road is scheduled to close between Brownswood Road and Main Road beginning at 7 p.m. tonight while crews work to replace a culvert as part of the ongoing U.S. 17 and Main Road improvements.
Work will take place through the weekend, and the road will reopen at 6 a.m. Monday. Due to the scope and location of the work, the closure will likely be required over multiple weekends.
Residents who live on River Road between the work area and Brownswood Road will continue to have access to their properties. Those who typically travel to Main Road via River Road will be detoured to Brownsville Road or Old Pond Road for access.
If a weather event or other emergency occurs, work will stop, and the contractor will reopen the roadway.
Please plan ahead and allow additional travel time during scheduled closure weekends. Updates will be shared in advance of each work period.
