Pricing Psychology: Why $4,500 Sells Easier Than $1,500 (Behavioral Economics) 02/08/2026

Random art thoughts: When purchasing art perceived value is everything. Artists price their work not only according to the cost of the supplies, how many hours they spent on it, or what level of skill or they have, but on how it makes them FEEL and how much money they're willing to accept to part with it. To most artists what they create is a very personal thing, not just a business transaction. You're not crazy, or missing some artsy-fartsy point if you don't agree on the price, it simply doesn't hold that same value to YOU. Then we have the art snobs (I don't consider snobs true artists or art aficionados)--the ones with art degrees who think they know better than you, and will attempt to make you feel stupid for not seeing the value in a piece of art, so they can justify their huge egos and price tags, and sucker you. I don't trust art galleries or gallery-hosted shows for just this reason. People like what they like, so don't let anyone make you feel stupid for not seeing the "perceived value" that someone tells you that you should see. Yes, you may not realize all the work that went into a piece, but you have EYES and can judge for yourself whether or not something is worth the price FOR YOU. As with any transaction, if the buyer and the seller (in this case the artist) is happy and feels they got their fair value, then it's a good transaction. If an artist lowers their price to accommodate your complaining or haggling then you have CHEATED THEM and should be ashamed--this isn't the flea market. An artist is charging what THEY think the piece is worth, you can agree, or disagree in your mind, but don't argue--just walk away because it's not for you. It's THEIR art. IF a piece holds a special meaning to you, and you have the money to spend, by all means buy it and be happy, but realize that's not an investment, because it will lose it's resale value unless someone else also perceives that special meaning. Art is about emotion, so what does it make you FEEL? How much is that feeling worth to you to take it home?

Etsy Stole My Earnings! How Big Investment Firms Use Etsy as a Trojan Horse for Digital ID 01/27/2026

I've been considering closing my Etsy shop and moving to eBay (I've had an eBay account since the 90s!). This video proves that Etsy is stealing from new sellers who don't want to risk identity theft by providing biometric data (a video of themselves to prove who they are). They don't ask for this data until AFTER you've set up your account and made a sale, and then won't give you YOUR money until you provide the biometric data! Etsy can shut your shop down for NO apparent reason (they often won't tell you why) and not pay you the money in your account, citing any number of reasons. They've held many seller's money hostage. Their business practices have become very shady, and are getting worse. I joined Etsy when it was new, and truly a platform for small independent creators, but then they allowed made-in-China crap to be sold, undermining and undercutting their loyal base of original sellers who MADE them what they are. I could go on and on. I'm going to think long and hard about moving to another platform, or maybe just stop selling my rings altogether and concentrate on selling my mini-sketchbooks and original art.
