The Pulsera Project

It’s been a busy few days with our amazing teacher group in Guatemala! We’ve visited our artisan & impact partners at Alma de Colores, Cojolya Association of Maya Women Weavers, and Asomujerdi Nahualá, and each organization has welcomed us with smiles, vulnerability, and gratitude.

Spending time with the people whose lives have been positively impacted by pulsera sales really brings the project into focus for us, and we’re also reminded that the project is truly a cultural exchange where U.S. teachers & students get just as much in return.

Incredible second day in Guatemala with our an even more incredible group of teachers! We headed across Lake Atitlan to visit our artisan & impact partners at IMAP (Instituto Mesoamericano de Permacultura), visited with a local school, harvested amaranth with the students, and toured the permaculture farm!

We had an amazing first day of our teacher trip to Guatemala! We visited our artisan partners at Creamos, did a paper-bead pulsera-making workshop, toured the ruins of Iximche, and then made our way down to Panajachel where we’ll be for the next few days meeting with a bunch of different pulsera artisan groups!

We're all set up for the annual AATSP American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese conference in Orlando the next few days! Please swing by and say hi if you're in attendance!

As part of The Pulsera Project x Asomujerdi work study program, Nely made pulseras to help pay her way though university and recently graduated with a degree in nursing. We're grateful to have had her as part of the pulsera family and wish her the best in whatever comes next!

You can help students in rural Guatemala gain the skills they need to pursue higher education, prepare for the competitive job market and thrive in our ever-changing world. Digital literacy means opportunity, and access to technology shouldn’t depend on where you’re born.

Since 2009, The Pulsera Project has exclusively raised funds through the sale of pulseras.

We’re excited to share a new way for supporters to directly invest in the communities we partner with by contributing to specific impact projects. This year's efforts are focused on funding a computer lab at CEMSAC, a partner school in rural Guatemala.

Computer literacy is part of Guatemala’s national curriculum, but many rural schools lack the equipment to effectively teach it. CEMSAC has committed to providing the classroom space, renovations and staff salaries for this project. The computers, printers, servers, routers, desks and chairs are where The Pulsera Project and you come in.

Every dollar raised will go directly to CEMSAC’s computer lab– The Pulsera Project will take no overhead.

Your contribution, combined with the ingenuity and dedication of the educators and students at CEMSAC, can make this goal a reality and build a lasting impact.

Together, we can equip the next generation with the tools they need to succeed — while honoring the traditions that make their community strong.

ESL students at Cornwall Terrace took learning beyond the classroom and into action this week as they proudly hosted their school’s first Pulsera Project sale! 🌎💛

The Pulsera Project is a nonprofit organization that partners with artisans in Central American countries like Guatemala and Nicaragua. These artisans handcraft colorful bracelets, called “pulseras,” and send them to schools in the U.S. for students to sell. The money raised goes directly back to these communities to support fair wages, education, healthcare, housing, and environmental initiatives.

Students worked hard to prepare, organize, and run the sale. Through this experience, they built communication and leadership skills while also learning the importance of empathy and global citizenship. Thank you to everyone who supported this meaningful cause!

The Pulsera Project truly would not exist without the incredible hard work, selflessness, creative spirit, and dedication of hundreds and hundreds of teachers across the U.S.

We are so appreciative for every one of you who has contributed to The Pulsera Project over the years, and are sending you an extra dose of gratitude today on Teacher's Appreciation Day.

From dusk till dawn kids, elders, families, neighbors, and friends all work together to create “alfombras” - ephemeral art that only exists for a few hours before being trampled by the parading feet of processioners.

More than their aesthetic or symbolism, it's the beauty of collaboration and human togetherness that makes this Guatemalan tradition so special.
