I enjoyed filling in for the role of Jade in the new teenage rock musical “Luke and Lucy” by Thomas Heath and Brad Moranz I wore my eight-year-old’s black hoodie because I was playing a TEENAGER. I got such a kick out of that.. the music was fun and the point of the musical is to support teenage mental health so I’m all in baby! It was a fun night and I’m glad I got to be a part of the project for a minute! .moranz

Happy International Women’s Day! I am so proud to be a woman and even more than that I’m proud to KNOW the women that surround me. They are so powerful, creative, resilient and inspiring!! Some are artists, some are mothers, ALL are waking up every day and eating hard things for breakfast. This world isn’t as female forward as I would like, but we should keep pushing for that. I think it would be a far more peaceful place. Celebrate the women in your life today!

Tonight put a sweet cap on a great week of concerts. I got to premiere a new concert about my life called “REAL LOVE…NEGOTIATED” in full band form at Middle C Jazz Club in Charlotte and Solo +grand piano on Daniel Island for an intimate concert opening for Charlton Singleton Quartet. I loved hanging with these guys backstage, and we enjoyed some pretty incredible sound by Michael Rogers. Epic thanks to wade walker for putting together such a beautiful candlelit concert!

REAL LOVE… NEGOTIATED ❤️

I’m so excited to bring this show to Middle C Jazz next Wednesday, February 11th at 7PM.

This cabaret lives at the intersection of Broadway storytelling and modern jazz, exploring the messy, funny, complicated, and beautiful ways we learn to love — partners, family, friends, and ourselves.

I’m beyond honored to share the stage with these incredible musicians:
🎺 Gino Castillo
🎹 Al Sergel
🎻 Ron Brendle
🥁 Phillip Howe

This incredibly unique jazz composition came to me via my friend and producer Marc Osborn who is working closely with Ben Parker, a wonderful jazz composer to bring some of his arrangements to album. “Pentagons” is traditionally for trumpet and I feel honored to be the FIRST to originate the vocal on this song. I have been working it on for the album since November and since I’ve spent so much time with it I put in my show Real Love Negotiated. See you next wednesday at Middle C Jazz Club! 2-11 7pm. Ticket link in bio.....
The first lyric really got me “A pentagon is like a square that’s trying hard to be round...” This metaphor perfectly describes how I felt every first day of school (and many different schools) as a child... totally out of place and trying very hard to be “in place”. I never did figure out how to be round, but loving all of my edges and appreciating how they actually work FOR ME in my life has become a practice of self love. I think of this when I’m doing my laps every day. It’s something I’m trying to teach my kiddos in real time. We are all different... and that’s cool. I love the woman I’ve become.
I’m thankful for this wonderful song to get a chance to celebrate that. Here’s some scatting that I’m just now embracing in my career as something that I do. I hope you get to experience a few moments of REAL LOVE today... some that doesn’t take a whole lotta negotiation.
