Point-of-care cups and dip tests are helpful screening tools commonly used in MAT and pain management settings. However, these tests are considered presumptive, meaning they suggest that a drug class may be present but cannot identify the exact drug or its specific metabolites.

Because these tests rely on chemical reactions, some prescribed or over-the-counter medications can occasionally cause results that need further review, sometimes referred to as “false positives.” When a result does not match the clinical picture, confirmatory laboratory testing may be appropriate.

Definitive testing using LC-MS/MS accurately identifies specific drugs and metabolites and can provide added clarity when confirmation is medically necessary. AppLabs offers definitive toxicology testing to support providers when confirmatory analysis is clinically indicated.

✨ Employee Spotlight: Courtney ✨

We’re excited to spotlight Courtney, our Toxicology Laboratory Supervisor, who has been a vital part of Appalachian Labs since March 2021.

Courtney plays a key role in keeping our toxicology lab running smoothly. From organizing lab workflow and processing samples to managing quality documentation, inventory, and instrument support, she helps ensure our results are accurate, timely, and compliant. Her favorite part of the job is creating structure and efficiency in the lab, something our entire team benefits from every day.

What Courtney values most about Appalachian Labs is the people. Having worked closely with the same team for years, she appreciates the strong relationships, collaboration, and positive environment they’ve built together.

Outside of work, Courtney enjoys spending time with her family, including her fiancé Joe, their daughter Nora, and their goldendoodle Daisy. She loves cooking, watching new shows and movies, and getting outdoors as a family to fish, swim, camp, and enjoy cookouts whenever they can.

We’re grateful for Courtney’s dedication, leadership, and the steady presence she brings to our lab every day. Thank you for all that you do, Courtney!
