Trigger Feature: A trigger feature is a specific, often subtle, cue that triggers a particular response or behavior. It’s like an automatic button that, when pressed, leads to a predictable outcome. For instance, a smile on a person’s face might be a trigger feature that induces a reciprocal smile from another person. Trigger features can be utilized effectively in persuasion strategies by creating a particular desired reaction.

Fixed-Action Patterns: These are sequences of behavior that occur in exactly the same fashion, in the same order, every time they are elicited. These patterns are often triggered by specific stimuli or situations. Once initiated, they usually go to completion without being influenced by the external environment. In other words, they are automatic, unthinking responses. This concept is used in the book to explain how people may respond predictably to certain stimuli in ways that can be exploited by those seeking to influence them.
