Introduction to Competitive Debate, July 25-July 29, 9 AM-4 PM

Advanced Debate Course, August 1-5, 9 AM-4 PM

During camp, students participate in games, lectures, mock debates, Socratic seminars, workshops, and other public speaking activities to learn and practice competitive debate. They research and present on different topics, all of which are debated on the competitive circuit. Our low student-teacher ratio provides students ample time and resources to learn and practice, in addition to receiving extensive feedback from instructors and their classmates. Students develop these core skills:

We are offering three online courses:

Middle School Debate (Parliamentary & Public Forum, ages 11-13), July 12-July 16, 9 AM-4 PM

High School Debate (Lincoln-Douglas & Public Forum, ages 14-18), July 19-July 23, 9 AM-4PM

Varsity High School Debate (Lincoln-Douglas & Public Forum, ages 14-18), July 26-July 30, 9 AM-4 PM

Virginia Debate Academy is excited to launch our online spring camp!

This interactive course will occur once per week, on Saturdays, 1-3 PM, running February 6th through April 24th. Students are expected to have experience in debate, such as previous camp or current circuit experience. Debaters will participate in Socratic seminars, workshops, and mock debates to strengthen their debate and speaking skills, while also preparing for upcoming tournaments.

Students have the flexibility to register for whichever classes they wish to attend each month. At the beginning of each month, we will send out a class schedule, which will include the topics covered.

Monthly tuition fees are based on the number of courses a student attends. Class fees are $60 per class or a discounted flat rate of $200 for all four classes per month.

Parents and Debaters,

Registration for our Online Winter Break Debate Camp is now open!

Students will participate in Socratic seminars, workshops, mock speeches and debates, and lectures to enhance their debate skills. Our classes are for students that have attended previous camps or are currently competing on the local and national circuit. Students will work with the December/January topics during class, providing them a great opportunity to receive additional help on their preparation for upcoming tournaments.

We have a unique class schedule to accommodate the Holiday season. Classes are 10AM-2:30PM with a 30-minute lunch break included. Please use the following link to register:

Virginia Debate Academy hosted four online debate camps this summer. Over seventy students from six states, Washington, D.C, and abroad logged in to develop their critical thinking, research abilities, and public speaking and debating skills, while researching important issues, such as nuclear proliferation, health care, climate change, and more. Students represented 43 schools, including top programs like Walt Whitman High School, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, Rachel Carson Middle School, and Nysmith School for the Gifted. We wish them all the best as they pursue more success on the state and national circuit, advance in the NSDA USA Debate Team qualification process, and take leadership positions on their respective teams.

We were pleased to offer a number of tuition discounts to families across Virginia, in accordance with our mission to provide an affordable and quality debate education to all students who seek it. VDA looks forward to working with more schools and parents this year to improve students’ access to educational opportunities, especially during COVID-19.
