—Virginia Paving Company Potomac Operations participated in a “touch a truck” event at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School Career Day back in March. The lineup included a VPC dump truck, tractor/lowboy, and asphalt roller. VPC employees engaged the eager students in conversations concerning the important careers available in trucking and construction. We also distributed VPC-sponsored coloring books to the children.

In recognition of their 20+ years of service to the organization, team members of Virginia Paving Company Northern Virginia Operations received service award gifts. They were honored at a luncheon at the Chantilly National Golf Club on November 30th, 2022.

ACE ALERT—There's an Awesome Construction Employee in the house! This month we recognize Lead Man/Screed Operator Cristian Saravia Sosa for his dedication, loyalty, and hard work. We value our team members and think they deserve some recognition.

Cristian is described as a quality leader by his team and superiors. Cristian explains what makes a quality leader: "a quality leader leads by example and takes the time to instruct, train and care for all members of their respective crews. We face difficult situations every day on the job. You have to work hand in hand with your team to get the best out of each of them. It is good to be optimistic and motivate everyone to do a good job and to meet the goals you have set for yourself and the crew."

Superintendent Christopher Kline shared with us, "Cristian is a six-year employee who has grown into a reliable and integral part of our operation. He has taken a step forward this year leading the crew with little supervision when his foreman is busy performing other aspects of their job or on PTO."

Thank you to all our team members who volunteered their time this past Tuesday to make the Avion Parkway cleanup a success! We cleaned up a 2-mile stretch of the Parkway. Due to our volunteer efforts, the VDOT installed an Adopt-A-Highway sign bearing our name this past June.

ACE ALERT—There's an Awesome Construction Employee in the house! This month we recognize Lead Mechanical Maintenance Engineer Travis Jarvis for his dedication, loyalty, and hard work. We value our team members and think they deserve some recognition.

Travis is described as a quality leader by his team and superiors. Travis explains what makes a quality leader: "focuses on getting the job finished but not taking advantage of your team members to make it happen, never ask your guys to do something that you are not willing to do yourself."

Superintendent Travis Williams shared with us, "Virginia Paving Company's rising star is Travis Jarvis. Travis started with the company in 2011 and was hired on as a lube/preventive maintenance technician, where he took his job to heart and learned as much as he could about the equipment we use. Around 2013 he transferred to the Stafford shop, and when he was not servicing the equipment, he started to help out in the shop turning wrenches. He quickly transitioned to a shop mechanic and then to a road mechanic. He has attended several training classes from our equipment dealers and strives to continuously learn and stay up to date in a rapidly changing mechanical field. Travis has proven himself daily, and at the start of 2022, he was promoted to lead mechanic and started to fill in for the shop foreman when he is out and will go above and beyond to help keep things running smoothly. We are very pleased with the progress he has made through the years of what he has accomplished and now is helping train the new team members as they start their careers."
