Local funding for Channelview comes from property taxes.
The district sets a tax rate, but the Harris Central Appraisal District sets your property value. The total tax rate is multiplied by the property value (minus the $140,000 Homestead Exemption) and divided by 100 to determine the amount owed annually.

Our school tax rate is divided into two main parts: Maintenance & Operation (M&O) funds day-to-day operations, including salaries, classroom supplies and utilities. Interest & Sinking (I&S) funds the payback of debt and interest for longer-term investments like facility renovation, new construction and safety improvements. 🔗https://course.cvisd.org/

El financiamiento local de Channelview ISD proviene de los impuestos sobre la propiedad. Aunque el distrito establece la tasa impositiva escolar, el valor de su propiedad es determinado por el Distrito de Avalúos del Condado de Harris (Harris Central Appraisal District).

Lightening the Load
Before 2025’s 89th Legislature, Texas had not changed the basic allotment for Texas students since 2019 despite inflation. The legislature approved an increase of $55 dollars per student to bring the basic student allotment to $6,215 per student.
However, there is still a noticeable gap between current funding and the impact of rising costs and inflation on Channelview ISD and districts across the state.

Texas still rates below the national average in per-student spending. Some lists have Texas as low as 46th or 47th in the United States in this crucial funding area.
