- To perform the Turkish get-up, begin by lying on your back with a kettlebell or dumbbell in one hand and that arm extended straight up. Ensure your opposite arm is out at a 45-degree angle and pressed to the floor. Your foot on the same side as the weight is flat on the ground. This stable base is crucial for maintaining balance as you move through the get-up. As you transition from one position to the next, break the movement into clear, controlled segments. Keep your eyes on the weight throughout the exercise to enhance stability and ensure proper alignment. Focus on tightening your core muscles in every phase of the movement. A strong core not only supports your lower back but also helps facilitate smoother transitions and greater control throughout the exercise. Repeat the get-up with the weight in the other hand. Repost from

FINALLY. OFFICIALLY A PUBLISHED AUTHOR OF A BOOK.
I couldn’t be prouder of this one. This book has been a long time in the making. From 2011 when I first started my PhD research, to 15 years later, a comprehensive piece of work covering the full application of heart rate variability.
A massive thank you to my co-authors Sylvain Laborde, Marco Altini, and Emma Mosley- Amazing contributions and a lot of fun along the way. What a team! 🙏 An equal shout out to my PhD supervisor Martin Buchheit and Paul Laursen. Although not named authors here, with their level of contribution to the content, this is as much their book at it is ours.

And to every HRV researcher, practitioner, tech companies (Whoop, Oura, 8 Sleep etc) and enthusiast around the world who has pushed this field forward: your work has made HRV more accessible, more practical, and a genuinely powerful tool. Not just for athletes, but for all populations.

If you’re already using HRV or you’ve been wanting to understand it better, this book is for you. Link in Bio.
