Every skirt needs a pattern. I have 11 sizes and 12 lengths not to mention the different styles. One of the biggest expenses manufacturing my skirts, is digitizing my patterns and printing them.
What you can’t see here - are the years behind the patterns. “Digitizing and printing” means I’ve already road tested, thoughtfully edited, and fit test across a range of sizes and heights and shapes of women.
The incredible amount of time put into each design, is a reflection of how I see you: worth time. And when I walk into sloppy retail stores selling poorly fitting garments, I take offense on behalf of you. You are doing important work and need functional beautiful clothing. Periodt.
I start work today on my newest pattern with Alison -Freelance Patternmaker 🥰🥰🥰
And MrsEmily.com is full of gorgeous pieces for you to live in. You can also make an appointment (MrsEmily.com or my link in bio) to come visit me at the salon.
The shops are full of “summer clothes”. The tricky thing about polyester, is that it can look like anything. So you might think you’re buying a nice cotton T-shirt or a flowy summer dress, and what you’re actually buying is plastic. I want women to be comfortable in their clothes, and it drives me nuts when brands cut corners and put us in non-breathing fabrics.
This skirt is in the shop. MrsEmily.com to purchase or to make an appointment to come see it in person. My original design, fabric from a mill in Italy, hand stitched by five women at Zindagi Cloth and Fibre Pvt Ltd in India. Special things to Molly Oberg | Illinois grown produce | Farmers Market for these videos.
Pinterest this is not good 🙄
Back from 11 days in Oregon and 😌😌😌 know what? I didn’t buy anything while I was there - but I returned to new skirts from India and “shopped” and tried in in my own salon 🥲
I’m linking all these skirts. MrsEmily.com to shop or to make an appointment to visit the salon.

Watch the skirt 👀
I’m really into *soft selling*. I want you to purchase in a no-pressure environment.
Sometimes that translates to me not gushing over skirts that deserve gushing. I’m here to correct that 🤓
I wore my Indigo Leaf skirt this week and threw it in the wash, reflecting on how universal it is. How I took it on a 10 day trip and wore it 5x - including canoing in the Dordogne and biking through Bordeaux. The fabric is lightweight but doesn’t hold wrinkles and doesn’t fly up in the wind. It matches everything in my closet, because it’s the color of denim.
It comes with a matching belt that can be used in your hair or on your bag. And it’s the only skirt to come with a matching hanky 🤧 which is the most adorable surprise. 🥰

I accidentally became an expert. A skirt scientist, who’s spent years personally sewing hundreds of skirts before slowly and carefully shifting sewing to the hands of 5 amazing sewists in India.
I have so many of these videos. Pajama Emily, making a skirt. It’s slow work that takes concentration and attention to detail.
As a friend told me last week: I think it is true of many of us who have honed expertise over years, but then forget to value it: “I offer to adjust the elastic ... saying it’s easy (after all I know how to do it, isn’t that the same thing?)”

New bloggy-blog with great quotes such as
“Food doesn’t come from windows”
and maybe more to the point:
“I am a good designer, unfamiliar with what a good designer looks like, because I’ve purchased clothes from bad designers my whole life. As have you. Old Navy doesn’t care if we look good, they care if we buy.”
A conversation with myself If you've ever wondered about my design process, here's a great lil look inside. I wrote this stream of consciousness, then plugged it into ChatGPT. The response gave me further insight into my role and its strengths and challenges. Enjoy: What I wrote: I have only ever seen recalls of product in on...
I often make pieces that match my skirts, but then I don’t do a great job of describing how I wear them. Some of that is intentional, I suppose, because my best progress in personal style and design, has come by way of playing. I take scarves, fabric, what I have in my closet, and I just wrap and twist and tuck and play. And I want you to do the same.
This head wrap and the green are the same fabric type and have a great grip that holds it in place all day.
