First Christian Church is about people. We are first and foremost a church - a people of faith who are pursing their life after the example of Jesus. We are known for our weekend gatherings. The music is alive, the messages are personal, and the Family Ministries are engaging. We have two locations, Urbana at Lincoln Square Mall and Champaign on the corner of Curtis and Staley. You can't fool your kids. ๐Ÿ˜…
You can say Jesus is the most important thing all day long โ€” but they're watching how you spend your time, your money, and what you actually talk about. And they're keeping score whether you know it or not.

You can't tell them eating healthy matters and have a cabinet full of Twinkies. Same energy.

What you do is always louder than what you say.

You start as a caretaker. But the goal was never to stay there.

Episode 12 of the Go Be The Church Podcast is live โ€” and Pastors Eric and Stephen are breaking down the four seasons of parenting: the Caretaker, the Coach, the Consultant, and the Celebration.

Whether you're teaching a toddler to listen and obey or learning how to let go of a college student โ€” understanding these shifts is the difference between constant friction and lasting influence.

Two pastors. Over a decade of ministry experience each. But more importantly, two dads just trying to get this right at home. They're getting honest about moving from hands to hearts, why protecting your kids from failure might be the worst thing you can do, and the one thing you can do this week to build a bridge of trust that lasts a lifetime.

The goal is a grown man or woman who loves Jesus with their own heart. Here's how you get them there.

There is a God and He is an ever-present help in your trouble.
Don't just run to that fortress. Proclaim the power.

Say to that struggle, that sin, that addiction, that war: "Be still and know, because I know the one true God. I know the one true King. And where I am, He is. Do your worst. I will still be standing because I am home with the Lord."

What are you proclaiming today?

To every dad, grandpa, father figure, and man stepping up to lead well โ€” today's for you. Thank you for showing up, pointing your family to Jesus, and loving us the way you do.
We're grateful for you.

If you still have time, you still have a chance. ๐Ÿ™
It's not too late. And one of the most powerful things you can do as a parent isn't having it all figured out โ€” it's modeling repentance, confession, and humility in front of your kids.

"I wish I would've done this sooner. But I love you too much to stay on this path."
That's not weakness. That's discipleship in action.

You get to choose your choices. You get to choose your path.
You don't get to choose your destination.

The blessed path? It starts by being different. By not taking advice that isn't from the Lord. By not following people who aren't spiritually mature. By not abiding in your sin.

Every choice comes with a consequenceโ€”positive or negative. And you're choosing right now.

Will you choose the blessed path?

Faith is caught more than it's taught.

If your kids don't see you living it out โ€” why would they take it seriously?

Most Christian parents would say their deepest desire is for their kids to know and love and follow Jesus. But then we live like other things are the priority. And our kids are watching every single day.

We can't talk out of both sides of our mouth and expect them not to notice.

Raising disciples isn't about perfect family devotionals or flawless Sunday mornings.

It's the little things. A one-verse memory with a silly hand motion. A blessing at the table. A prayer whispered before bed. Those tiny, ordinary rhythms? They shape a life.
Pastors Eric and Stephen get real about the messy moments, the mistakes, and the grace that holds it all together โ€” plus three practical steps you can try this week to lead your family toward God by grace, not by guilt.

If you've ever wondered whether the weekday moments actually matter โ€” they do.
