When I create a commissioned piece, I try my damnedest to hold the person I am creating for in my heart and mind. In this case, it was easy for me to conjure this family’s vibe because they’re love for adventuring as a family aligns with my family’s love for adventuring.
This is a section of Kickapoo - more specifically, a trail the Haas family frequented while living here in central Illinois. I imagined them roaming yards from the trail, looking at the flora and fauna, and feeling whole. ❤️

Hey friends! Jim here. Listen, I know I just said yesterday that we’d be at MADEFEST Friday AND Saturday, but a number of forces outside of our control has made it impractical for us to be at the show today. We’re sad we can’t be there, but there are a lot of great vendors on site who you should definitely go check out! In the meantime, here’s an adorable photo of my dog Rocco. Enjoy this beautiful day, friends! ❤️

It was a little last minute and a bit thrown-together, but we are hanging out at MADEFEST at The Rose Bowl in Urbana today and tomorrow. Come out, friends!

Jim + I make things. And we wanted to be in a space where we can make things together. Our new showroom will have more of a pop-up feel and will focus solely on our own work and some cool vintage-y things that are true to our style. Until we get that up and running, we are still very much here - sanding, finishing, painting, designing. Want us to make you something cool? Awesome, because we like to make cool things.

We will be opening tomorrow from 3-8 - our last day in this beautiful light filled room. Jim + I have loved being here but our business requires us to be working in the same space together. In just a couple of months we will have a workshop + showroom in the same building! A part of owning a creative business is finding what really works for your craft, and what is needed to stay inspired. We inspire each other and need to be together to do our best work. New location to be revealed soon - you know we are already working on making it fantastic. ❤️ Stop in for some discounted goods (no artwork though, so sorry!) or just to say hello. We love you all so much.

Hey, all. Jim here. I was reminded this morning that today is the 2 year anniversary of the delivery of the very first Axis Mundi dining table.
What is now a signature item in our collection was purpose-designed for clients in Downer's Grove, IL, who reached out to me looking for a table that would seat 14 and would complement the interior of their new home.
Based on the measurements of the room and the desired 14-seat capacity, I knew I'd need to push the legs of the table all the way out to the extreme corners to allow for maximum leg room and that I would need the strength of an all-steel structure to handle the span.
Steel was already an integral texture in the adjacent fireplace, and the white-tinted white oak, which I chose for strength as much as aesthetics, plays nicely with the clean, understated tones of the fireplace's stone surround.
In the last two years, I have created numerous variations on the Axis Mundi for my clients. Currently in process in our magic lab, I have a small Axis Mundi that repurposes the top of a table built by the client's grandfather, the largest Axis Mundi (and largest table that I've built) - a massive 5' x 16' behemoth with an African Mahogany top, and the first two of a collection of 40 (yes, 40!!) 4' x 12' Black Walnut-topped Axis Mundi tables for a new event space.
Problem-solving plants seeds. One of the greatest rewards of creative entrepreneurship is getting to watch them grow. Now, what can we create for you?

This custom mantle turned out well! We’re pretty smitten with it and the majority (well, all) of our our custom projects. We are OPEN tomorrow (from 12-5) if you’d like to swing by and discuss one of your own projects or just to say hey. We can’t wait to see you!
PS - friends, we are both fully vaccinated! Just FYI 😉
