I tell you what - I see art everywhere! This is the nub of romaine lettuce (after making a salad) and it’s ink pad prints.

New changes to my concertina sketchbooks! The addition of aqua-green and a black splat to the top one. And I muted down some places on the bottom one. I did it by gluing down tracing paper, sometimes a couple of layers.

I got a question asking what this is. Here’s how I answered:
It’s kind of like a sketchbook. I’ve never worked on a piece with this shape. I’m experimenting with composition, materials, layers…I’m playing, and seeing what I come up with. It might be a technique or colors I like or who knows!
Today I put on these “C” shaped pieces of collage. I’ve been fascinated by this shape. I think I like how it portrays movement.

I did add gesso to the top one. It’s the white you see. On the bottom I put down really thin (1/8”) masking tape. Then I added watercolors to both, pulled off the masking tape on the bottom, and am happy with the result. As to adding the word DISRUPT, the other night I dreamt about it. I think I dreamt about it because I am SO FRUSTRATED being terrorized by my own government.

In the continuing effort to stretch my creativity, I’m making these Concertina sketchbooks. They were made from very absorbent 140 lb. cream colored, cold press (bumpy) watercolor paper. I’ll do the other side too, so the end result, when folded, will be an eight page book. I might put on a layer of gesso so it won’t be so absorbent. (Gesso is generally used to prepare a canvas, so that the paint won’t be absorbed by the canvas cloth.) The top one has water soluble graphite on it, and the bottom one has India ink and permanent marker on it. I really like the drip splats of ink on the bottom one.

Today I spent my studio day gel printing with ginko leaves.

I’m giving up on my stars and fireworks painting. Some paintings cannot be brought back to life. It’s behind me now, and I’m starting a collage painting.

Getting closer to done, but not quite there.

I might have figured out a solution to my painting problem. Stencils! I made these stencils today and they are getting close to what I want to do in the painting. These are on black paper. Tomorrow I’ll experiment with them on canvas.
