In the fall of 2016, I decided to start His Glory Tutoring.

My life goal was to help teenagers in every way possible, and the only thing that didn’t line up with that goal in my life was my job.

I found so much fulfillment from it the second I started.

I still remember that first session helping a young girl with 4th grade math. (She’s going into 10th grade this fall). I left with a huge smile.

I continued in-home tutoring for two years before making the decision to open the tutoring center.

I wanted to make a difference in our community by helping students improve their grades. Along with myself and the other tutors who have been with me over the years, I believe that we have done that, and I couldn’t be more proud.

I’ve watched students go from struggling in 7th grade math to now going to college in the fall.

I’ve seen other students with no confidence in themselves slowly start to gain it.

I’ve been able to help young people through their break-ups, heartache, deaths in the family, and panic attacks while we worked through their endless math homework.

The amount of lessons I’ve learned, relationships that were built, and love that was shared has far surpassed what I ever expected.

After much prayer, counsel, and consideration, I have decided the tutoring center will not being opening back up in the fall.

I will continue to help the teenagers in this community through youth pastoring and through the scholarship agency I started alongside the tutoring center. I feel that narrowing my focus to those two things will allow me to make a greater impact than I could otherwise.

To our parents, thank you for trusting me with the education of your students.

To our students, keep working hard to be everything God has created you to be.

To our team: Kaitlyn, Joleen, Lauren, Helen, and Hannah, thank you for helping make an impact on these kids.

To my wife Melanie, thank you for always pushing me and supporting me to do everything the Lord calls me to.

Running His Glory Tutoring has been a great joy, and I will miss our students deeply.

Helping your student create good study habits can be a challenge for sure.

(And all the parents said "Amen!")

I find that the most important aspect of ACT prep is consistency.

There's no point in forcing them to sit down once for 3 hours just working through a workbook.

They need consistent practice over a long period of time.

So, how do you practically make that happen?

1. Get a clear schedule in place.

This is a really good opportunity to instill time management skills in your teenager that they will use for the rest of their lives.

Write out their weekly schedule with them on a piece of paper and have them choose a couple of hours a week that they can dedicate to this.

2. Have a study plan.

I suggest getting them some ACT practice tests to work through and just take advantage of free online resources.

If you need some help with this, I'd be happy to hop on a Zoom call and put together a study plan with you and your student.

3. They need accountability.

Whatever plan you help them set up, hold them accountable for doing it.

If this causes some stress in your household, then get a tutor that can hold them accountable in that area.

(I feel like most of the conversations I have with my tutoring parents and students begin with them confessing this 😂😂.)

4. They need encouragement.

Let's face it. Being a teenager is hard.

Forcing yourself to study for a BORING standardized test is hard.

When you see them doing it, encourage them. Let them know you're proud of them.

Try these few things out and I bet you'll start to see that consistency in their prep that you're looking for 🙂

We have an exciting update to our ACT/ SAT program! ⬇️

Most tutors just focus on the content of the ACT/ SAT, which is great--don't get me wrong.

BUT let's be honest, if you really want your student to find success, they need consistent prep over time-- not just short spurts of you forcing them to do it.

They need the time management skills and the study plan in place to really be successful.

In order to help solve this ⬇️

We are offering free strategy sessions where we can come up with an individualized study plan for your student to make preparing for these tests actually doable for them.

If you are looking for more than just a one-off session,

our next 8- week ACT program begins on February 7th. We only have 4 seats remaining.

If you'd like more information on this, shoot us a message or feel free to call us at 504-264-7885.

If you would like to book one of those strategy calls, just click on the first link in the comments.

Talk soon.
