How should you structure your comp plan? James Jackson from Canva has a clear framework: let customer proximity and company growth stage do the heavy lifting.

Hypergrowth companies should lean commission-heavy. Stable growth companies should flip it — higher base, lower commission. And the most common "edge case" (partner AM vs. customer success on commission) isn't really an edge case — it's a strategy question.
