Over my 52 years of experience working as an Architectural Designer Draftsman, I have come upon a number of different kinds of projects. Mainly commercial in nature.

When putting together a set of construction drawings to be submitted to the local building officials, I make sure noting is left out. My drawings are so complete that the building department rarely has any questions about the project.

From Stair designs, remodeling projects, to new construction. I have specialized in measuring existing buildings and remodeling.

The Garbage Bag

Life and feelings are like garbage that you put into a Garbage Bag. Everyone has to have some sort of release in life. They need to talk to someone, a friend, a mate, or even sometimes a relative. Anybody that you feel will give you an impartial response.

I have found that a good friend makes the best sounding board. They will listen to you, help you decide on a course of action to take through the mountain, problem, feeling, or what ever. You just, need, a sounding board sometimes, to bounce around ideas. They may not even say anything, or give you an opinion.

Most of the time, you have already made the right decision in your own mind; you just have to hear yourself say it. I know a lot of people who keep their problems to themselves. They tell me, "I don't want to burden anybody else with my problems." These people are, destined, to explode under the pressure.

The longer you go without taking garbage out of your bag the larger the bag gets. It may start as a kitchen size, but when more and more years pass, it grows to a lawn bag. People that keep their feelings to themselves for a long time need a large garbage bags. They keep putting, in, the garbage, the thin plastic gets thinner, thinner, thinner, and without taking any out someday that bag is going to explode. BOOM!!!!!!

When planning a construction project the smallest details need to be addressed. Like product supply.

How long is it going to take to get my items?
When do I need to order that item in time to get it when I need it?

Due to the shortage in the work force left after the Covid Pandemic a high volume of orders may delay the process. This may be out of our control.

Customers need to plan ahead for their products due to manufacturing delays.

All orders are processed within 1 to 3 days (excluding weekends and holidays) after receiving your order confirmation email. You will receive another notification when your order has shipped. There may be a delay as much as 6 to 8 months before orders are ready to ship.

As I have been repairing and updating items on our house I have found some disturbing construction practices that have become the norm.

While removing old vinyl windows from an existing opening I found the original wood frames still in the wall. These frames had been covered sometime in the past with aluminum trim to make the new installation look like new. But, the aluminum trim caused extensive damage to the old window frame and the supporting stud framing.

It appeared that the aluminum covering would condense moisture on the back side. That moisture then migrated into the old wood causing it to rot.

I believe that the practice of covering existing wood with aluminum in high humidity areas damages the substructure of the building.

Over the past few years I have worked on a number of home remodeling and new homes. During that process the owner has hired an Interior Designer to layout the plan to their desire. That is all well and good. But, that service is incorporated in my process.

When an Interior Designer is involved in the layout of the plan the owner ends up paying twice for that service.

Interior Designers role working with my company is to pick out wall, floor, cabinet & door finishes.

When I was in seventh grade one of my drafting teacher told me that “If you find a job that you love, you will never work a day in your life.”

I have been an Architectural Designer Draftsman now for 52 years, and I haven’t worked a day in my life.

It has been surprising the types of projects that came across my desk. Back in 2011-2017 I completed shop drawings for a shelving installer for some Von Maur Stores shoe storage area.

Over the years I have been a part of a number of different types of projects like shop drawings. The attached is a set of stone shop drawings from 2018.

Way back in the mid 90's I designed the Ragtop Diner at the corner of Collins Rd NE and Council St NE. It was a hot restaurant for a few years and finally fell to competition. The building was sold to Panera Bread which is in the building to this day.

Another project that I completed last year was a 1,933 SF house.

I haven't been on here for a while. Still recouping from the fall off the roof in June of 2021.

So, for those new people that have been viewing my site I thought that I would showcase some of the projects that I have had the opportunity to work on in my 51 years of drafting.

On that come to mind is the gas control piping for a company in Marshalltown, iA. It was a control panel that mixed different gases in a hospital type atmosphere.
