Whippet brothers - Mocha and Turbo - are excelling in their Hounds for Heroes training. Here at the Dog Alliance we're introducing this breed alongside the mainstay Labs and Goldens for several reasons. are known for their gentle and loving nature forming strong bonds with their families. They require minimal grooming with reduced shedding compared to many working dogs. And, they enjoy a good balance of active playtime and relaxed lounging with their humans! Mocha (thin stripe) & Turbo love our weekly public access outings where they can practice their skills!

Dogs: 30,000 million. Humans: 6 million. The number of olfactory receptors we humans have pales in comparison to our best friends! Dogs have neophilia (a new word for Scrabble!) which is an attraction to new and interesting odors! You know what we're talking about here! Let's put that nose to work in a fun new way! Join trainer Naomi as she shares "Introduction to Odor" https://academy.thedogalliance.org/w/events/84-intro-to-odor/11031 - which is the next class up from Nosework (next class scheduled for early Fall).

Hats off for our training program! Need to clean a closet? We need gently used (or new) hats to use for Hounds for Heroes and Train Your Own Service Dog training. Bike helmets, wide-brim hats, ball caps, police or fire helmets, cowboy hats, "ladies who lunch" hats...you get the idea! We use in our Distractions and People Greeting workshops training the dogs to be comfortable with a variety of headgear, scarves, glasses, etc.
Please bring your donated hats to the Dog Alliance, 1321 W. New Hope Dr., Cedar Park, TX during 9-5 business hours Mon-Thurs or you can leave them on our covered front porch here for a class in the evening or on weekends. Need more details? Email [email protected]! Tell your friends! The dogs say, "Woof!"...and "Thank You"!

Today is National Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Day. Through our Hounds for Heroes and Train Your Own Service Dog programs, the Dog Alliance provides service dogs as a method of helping military veterans, first responders, and civilians find greater independence. Dogs (pictured) like Copper, Finn, Emmett, Sparky, Molly, Anakin, and Teddy!

Anxiety and Panic Attack Interruption: Service dogs are trained to recognize signs of anxiety or panic attacks and intervene by providing tactile stimulation -- nudging, pawing or deep pressure therapy -- to help ground their handler and reduce the severity of the episode.

Public Safety and Confidence: Service dogs help their handler feel more secure in public spaces by providing a sense of safety and acting as a buffer in crowded environments, which can reduce hyper-vigilance and anxiety.

Emotional Support and Companionship: Service dogs provide consistent companionship, which can help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.
