Situated in the Historic Downtown district, with a short walk to the museum, beach, city park, and the big dock area with several restaurants.

Come visit Cedar Key and stay at the Cedar Inn Motel, situated right in the heart of the historic district and within walking distance from most attractions, such as the dock and city park (main beach).

I think I figured out why Levy county does not want to repair the dock until October: they want to make sure we get through at least one hurricane season. That being said, I would suggest we urge them to start IMMEDIATELY towards the end of October. I don't know the dates for the Seafood Festival, but towards the end of October would seem to make sense, this year.

Just letting everyone know we are open and have been in the process of remodeling the rooms after the storm. I will attach a few of the upgraded rooms. The upstairs rooms are all available and we are doing the downstairs rooms one at a time.

When Hurricane Idalia slammed into Florida's Gulf Coast in August, one of the hardest hit areas was Cedar Key.

A nearly 7-foot storm surge battered the small fishing community, flooding a third of the buildings on the island. In a new report, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says Idalia caused an estimated $3.6 billion in damage, most of it in Florida's Big Bend region. But on Cedar Key, when the water receded, scientists found some good news amid all the damage.

Nature-based "living shoreline" projects built to protect roads, buildings and other structures were relatively undamaged.

On Cedar Key over the past several years, a team of researchers from the University of Florida has used a variety of tools to mimic nature. Instead of building seawalls and jetties, they've brought in sand, put in marsh plants and used artificial reefs to encourage the growth of oyster beds offshore.

People who live on the tiny island year-round are no strangers to storm surge and flooding. Because it's so low and close to the water, the town sees flooding during even small storms. In 2016, Hurricane Hermine brought then-record storm surge and flooding. Savanna Barry, an extension agent and researcher with the University of Florida, says that with that history, the devastation of Hurricane Idalia wasn't unexpected. "Shocking's not really the right word, but certainly overwhelming," she says. "But we were happy to see the living shorelines had relatively little damage."

We cannot express enough our immense gratitude to all the amazing members of our wider community who have showed up to help us tear out all of our water damaged flooring and replace it! We could not have done this alone and it is so heartwarming the way our neighbors have rushed in to our rescue!

We appreciate everyone who has reached out to see how we have made out after Idalia! While we are still assessing the damage, we are optimistic that most of the damage was superficial, and we should be back up and running soon! We hope all of our friends and family on the island are safe and well and that we can quickly rebuild to make Cedar Key even better and more fun than the lively outpost we have always known and loved!
