Εις πολλά έτη, Δέσποτα!

"Eis polla eti, Despota!" (in Greek) is the traditional way for Orthodox Christians to wish God to grant a hierarch "Many Years!" ("многая лѣта" in Church Slavonic; "La Mulți Ani" in Romanian).

Earlier today, our Diocese of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) shared a post on its page to congratulate its ruling hierarch and wish him a happy birthday: "May your 78th year be blessed, Vladyka!"

"Many years, Master! The clergy, monastics, and faithful of the Bulgarian Diocese wish His Eminence Archbishop Alexander many more blessed years on the occasion of his birthday.

"Eis polla eti, Despota!"

We are very grateful to have His Eminence continue to shepherd our diocese, even after he relinquishes his responsibilities to the Diocese of the South on July 23, 2026.

Earlier today, the Diocese of the South of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) shared a post on its page to congratulate its ruling hierarch and wish him a happy birthday:

"We give thanks to God for his ministry among us, and we ask the Lord to grant His Eminence many years in health, peace, repentance, wisdom, and joy in the service of Christ and His Holy Church. Many years, Master!"

As announced earlier (https://tinyurl.com/42nvme4e), His Eminence Archbishop Alexander (Golitzin) will soon be retiring from his role as the ruling hierarch of the Diocese of the South on July 23, 2026.

On that date, "His Eminence will be relieved of his duties as diocesan bishop of the South. He will, however, continue to serve as the ruling bishop of the Bulgarian Diocese."

We are very grateful to have His Eminence continue to shepherd our diocese, even after he relinquishes his responsibilities to the Diocese of the South.
