Casper Humane Society
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, no-kill animal shelter. Proudly serving our community for more than 75 years.
We are a non-profit, no-kill shelter in Casper, Wyoming. We have been a part of our community for over 65 years. As a non-profit, we do not receive any government funding and rely solely on the support of donors. Our role in the community is very important and while many people don't know the extent of our work, on any given day, we are home to more than 100 animals ranging from dogs and cats to guinea pigs, rats, reptiles, and birds. Not only do we provide basic care such as feeding and cleaning their living space, it is important to us that our animals receive spaying/neutering, vaccines, deworming, and microchipping, socialization, exercise, positive stimulation, training, and extensive vet care. Our time and attention is necessary to ensure our standards are met and our animals remain happy, healthy, and confident as they search for their new homes. On average, we find homes for nearly 500 animals every year. Our devotion to finding the best placement for each individual enables our ability to maintain a changing population and continue helping others in need. It is our daily goal to ensure animals that come into our care are healthy or nursed back to health and feel love and comfort during a vulnerable time in their lives, with the help of our volunteers alongside our staff, we are able to make this possible. "Our mission is to provide shelter, medical care, and love and to find quality homes for animals in our care. To educate the community about the humane treatment and the importance of spay/neuter and vaccination of animals"

This is a fun post to do today! Today is Corinthia's Birthday! π
We met Corinthia quite a few years ago. She participated in our youth program, worked with us for a short while and now she is all grown up and back at the Casper Humane Society. And, we couldn't be happier. π
Corinthia is calm, gentle and LOVES big dogs! π She love all animals but she particularly loves working with the larger breed dogs. Her patience and consistency help her form beautiful relationships and we are so grateful. β₯
Thank you, Corinthia, for being a part of the CHS family for so long and Happy, Happy Birthday!

May we interest you in a little... D&D? The adventuring party has assembled, and theyβre all cats. π
Monk, Paladin, and Druid will be your most prized and proper boys. They're poised, adventuresome, and ready to bring many years of happiness to your home and, obvs, your heart. π½ Like any 4 month old kittens, they are FULL of life. No armor. No weapons. Just claws and confidence. They love to climb, play, zoom, and explore. If you need a buddy who will be all up in your biz, probably distract you from the things you should do but don't want to, then you're looking at your new avoidance assistant... or assistants. π There is no better place to be than in the presence of a master of balance, one with nature, and a sworn protector. So don't leave 'em hangin'. They love to be cuddled, adored, and let's be real, those perfectly striped faces are totally irresistible to all of the smooches. And can we talk about those whiskers? Slay, adventure party, slay. π
To get a little serious, they were were found abandoned in a box as tiny kits, and the rest is history. We've showered them with our love, watched them grow, and as we end this journey, we hope only the best for our special boys. They deserve to be prioritized, kept safe, and live every day knowing just how much they matter (and don't forget the wet food). π«Ά
If you've been considering adding a little fun to your family, we think Monk, Paladin, or Druid will be everything your heart is searching for. Don't forget the shelter will be open from 12 pm - 5 pm tomorrow, and they will be waiting. β¨

Sometimes in life you meet people and they truly impact your life. Sadly, sometimes you don't REALLY get to know them until they are gone. π’
As many of you know, Dr. Gail Mahnke passed away a short time ago. Her loss has been felt by so many in our community and beyond. The Casper Humane Society is also feeling that loss. β₯
Dr. Gail was part of our Board of Directors and was instrumental in helping us move toward some of our goals that before felt out of reach.
For many years we had a dream of being able to provide more and better medical care and treatment in the shelter. It was Gail's determination and a little bit of her stubbornness πthat helped us move forward with renovating a storage area into a medical room.
Although we didn't achieve all of our dreams, we will forever be grateful to her for the many ways that she helped us progress, challenged us and helped us take a look at ourselves and our processes.
We don't have all the memories and photos that many of you have so we borrowed some pictures from her daughter and her friends to make this post. Our hearts and our thoughts are with all of you that knew the REAL Gail.
Throughout this process it has been a privilege to get to hear about the many ways she showed up for friends and colleagues. The way that she supported and impacted her family and friends and the many gifts she was willing to share with so many.
Gail's legacy will continue to live on in so many ways. Her contributions to us will forever be remembered as well.

We just want you all to know that these pictures encapsulate exactly who this little fella is in his rawest form. π
Dougal is an 8 week old mixed breed who came to us when he was teeny tiny. We aren't sure what breeds he is, but we are certain that he is adorable and his personality is way too big for his britches. We mean that in the best way possible. You're gonna love him! π₯° He has a lot of opinions, and he's always down to share them for free, so if you're the type who isn't afraid to speak your mind, you're definitely looking at your soul dog. For the past 6 weeks, he's been keeping our Kennel Manager in line, aka his foster pops, but he's definitely ready to bring his strong qualities to his forever home. Dougal requires structure and stability, and like any perfect puppy dog angel, he needs your commitment and guidance. π He has a lot of potential, a lot of love, a lot of innocent joy, and a free spirit to make you take a break, catch your breath, enjoy the little things, and make sure you do it all with your favorite little Dougal by your side. He won't ask for much more than your time and attention, and the law says that plenty of chewy toys for a teething pup is non-negotiable (and he LOVES his toys). So, if you're prepared to give your heart and part of your bank account to this undeniably precious boy, then this may be a match made in heaven. π«Ά
Dougal is used to being around other dogs, cats, and naturally, he just loves everyone. He is young; new things can be a little scary, but with your reassurance, we know he will grow to be the best boy he is meant to be! β¨
Don't forget to stop by any time during our open hours, and we will be happy to introduce you! 12 pm - 5 pm, Tuesday - Saturday.

Rehome is actually a six letter word but it is often treated like a taboo word because of the shame, guilt and judgement attached to it.
While we wish we had the space to accept every animal that needs placement, the reality is that most shelters in the US are over capacity.
Rehoming your pet can be frustrating. But, there are resources available to help. When rehoming your pet it is important to utilize all the resources available to you. Don't rely on one shelter for space or placement.

We don't just want you to say hello to Samira; we want you to prepare yourself to fall in love because this girl is something special. β¨
She was found in rough shape near a rest stop between Casper and Shoshoni in May. She was underweight, covered in ticks (seriously, an understatement), and we can't say how long she had been fending for herself. Whatever she had to do, she did it right because a kind citizen noticed her and brought her to us, and she has been making our days brighter ever since. π€ We can't begin to explain how full of love Samira is. She values her time with people, and she won't take a single second for granted. If you're lookin' to cuddle, just know she is THAT girl, and your Sunday vibes will never be better! We think she is about 2 years old, a Husky mix of some kind (Terrier? Border Collie?), and as you can imagine, with those genes comes great energy. π«‘ There's only one thing she adores more than people, and that is her playtime. She yearns to run, somehow transforms into a 39lb bulldozer, and a tennis ball doesn't stand a dang chance when she's around. Somehow, she's found the perfect mix between being your favorite snuggle bug and your most cherished speed demon. And, boy, no one could possibly do it better. π
Samira is going to be a loyal companion dedicated to your happiness, comfort, and making sure you stay in shape so she can live her life to the fullest (truly a win win if you ask us). While her energy should be kept in mind, she does do well with respectful kids who are aware of boundaries. Dogs, if they can keep up, because she may be scrawny, but mentally she is brawny (she's a rough player, ok?). πͺ And she even does well with cats. Can you say, JACKPOT?! She deserves all the trips to her new favorite spot, Unleashed Dog Bakery. Can you really look into those eyes and not shower her in pupcakes? π₯Ή
If you've been looking for a mature girly to live life's greatest moments with, stop by any time during our open hours to meet Samira. We promise you will not be disappointed. β¨

Good evening, CHS supporters!
We are running low on dry and wet dog food, and by low, we mean our shelves are dang near empty and we have 74 bellies to feed (36 adults, 38 puppies). π₯Ή
We know these are difficult times for many, but it takes a village. If you're in a position to donate some Iams adult or puppy food, or any brand of wet dog food, we would be eternally grateful!
Picture of Marco for attention because... he's PERFECT. β¨

Today we want to celebrate someone that we don't see at the shelter as often anymore. But, we are coming up on the time of year when she is always such amazing help for the shelter! π
But, for today, we say Happy Birthday Trish! π
Trish has worn many hats for CHS over the years. Event Coordinator, Animal Care Tech, Giving Tree Designer, caregiver, friend and so much more. β₯
If you see Trish today - please wish her a very Happy Birthday!
See you soon!

A few weeks back, cats were dumped outside our gates by the highway. Today, they are demonstrating their knack for modeling, and let's be honest, they are killin' it. π
Say hello to Pony Boy and Soda Pop! They don't know it yet, but the stress they endured is quickly fading away, and they're about to find loving families to shower them in every way they deserve. β¨ We believe they're about 1 year old, and they have long lives ahead as your handsome boys, and yes, they want to hear it. Every. Single. Day. We really don't know anything about their past; however, today they're chillin' in a colony room with a few other cats, exploring the catio, and embracing their freedom to roam. It has taken time, but they're coming around, and we have no doubt they will be the cozy lap cats they were always meant to be. π«Ά Pony Boy is a pretty little butterfly who is eager to approach for attention. He will demand those head scratchies, and if you have a tasty treat? Well, he'll be your best friend! Soda Pop is more reserved, but he's never denied us petting, hugging, and loving him. With patience and comfort, he will keep blossoming, and his journey will only become more beautiful. π€It would be nice for these boys to be adopted together, but it is not a requirement. As long as they find stable and loving families, our hearts will be content. They truly deserve every ounce of heart and soul someone can possibly pour into them. π₯Ή
If you are ready to be the special someone one or two precious boys deserve, stop by any time during our open hours, and we will be happy to introduce you! β¨ 12 pm - 5 pm, Tuesday - Saturday.
P.S. if you read this early, excuse the typos. Some kittens were having their way with the keyboard and it went unnoticed. π
Little Nifty arrived battling an upper respiratory infection and malnourishment. The good news? Her spirits are high, sheβs willing, and sheβs adorable. π₯Ή
Send all your positive vibes for her healing. She has lots of biscuits to make and hearts to take. β¨
