Who Was Helen Keller? 06/22/2026

This week, we recognize Helen Keller, a trailblazer whose life continues to inspire people around the world.

Born in 1880, Helen lost her sight and hearing as a young child—but with the help of her teacher, Anne Sullivan, she learned to communicate through sign language and Braille. She went on to become the first DeafBlind person to earn a Bachelor’s degree. She was a published author and a lifelong advocate for accessibility and inclusion. Helen traveled the world promoting opportunities for people who are Blind and DeafBlind, helping pave the way for the services and supports available today.

Wyoming Relay is proud to continue that mission—connecting people who are DeafBlind to the world around them through accessible communication services like TeleBraille, IP Relay and Relay Conference Captioning (RCC).

Together, these tools help ensure independence, connection, and full participation in everyday life. During DeafBlind Awareness Week, we honor Helen Keller’s legacy by continuing to build a more accessible, connected future for all. 🤟

Like to speak for yourself on calls but need help hearing the response due to a hearing loss? Voice Carry-Over (VCO) lets you do just that!

- You speak directly to the other caller.
- A communications assistant types what they say.
- You read everything in real time on your device.

VCO is a great option for people who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing who prefer to use their own voice.

Let’s be real—sometimes, you don’t want anyone overseeing or eavesdropping on your doctor’s calls. I mean, do you really want your mother-in-law to find out there’s a new family member on the way before you’re ready to share the news?

That’s where confidentiality with IP Relay comes in! While video relay services are great, they can sometimes turn your private conversation into a family affair. Instead, why not try IP Relay?

With IP Relay, you can text your doctor through the app, and a communications assistant will voice your written words on the call. You can then read everything the other party says, right in the app.

So, keep it confidential and call your doctor with confidence!
