On June 11, together with IT Launchpad, we hosted a business meetup in Warsaw focused on doing business between Poland and the United States.

Maryia Lemiaza and Yauheni Khodzkin shared insights on international taxation, legal aspects of operating across multiple jurisdictions, and common mistakes that can create additional risks for businesses.

We also took a deep dive into the topics raised by participants, ranging from setting up a company in the US and choosing the right corporate structure to taxation, employee legalization, and international business expansion.

While supporting projects between Poland and the US, we regularly encounter situations where businesses are structured only within one country, without considering the international side of the picture.

For example, a company and its US taxes may be structured correctly from the American side, while overlooking Polish tax residency, contractor arrangements, dividend distributions, or other nuances that may later create additional tax risks in Poland or the EU.

Our AI agent SMARFEJA

SMARFEJA is a tool that consolidates our team’s practical expertise and helps quickly find answers to common questions, navigate tasks, and access the necessary information 24/7.

It was developed by our partner, Console CX is an AI-powered customer support platform, under the leadership of Dmitry. We truly appreciate the team’s attentive and engaged approach. Their deep immersion in our processes made it possible to create a solution that genuinely works in day-to-day operations and aligns with our needs.

To date, SMARFEJA includes over 1,160 internal instructions, guides, and real-life cases from our practice, as well as more than 2,300 processed queries from both our team and clients.

It is important to note that SMARFEJA does not replace a specialist. Instead, it helps resolve routine questions more efficiently, allowing the team to stay focused on more complex tasks.

We continue to develop the tool, improving both the quality and accuracy of its responses. At the moment, SMARFEJA is available to our team and clients, and we are working towards making it accessible to a wider audience.

What competencies are you ready to delegate to AI, and which ones are non-negotiable?

We came across this question at TEDx Ulica Mińska , and it perfectly captures the current reality of working with AI in a professional environment.

In accounting and tax practice, certain tasks can be automated, especially those that are routine and repetitive.

At the same time, areas involving tax filings, complex cases, and responsibility still require human expertise. As of today, AI cannot fully replace this level of oversight and judgment.

That is why at SMAR, we take a different approach.

We developed SMARFEJA, an AI assistant that:
• consolidates internal guides, instructions, and real-case expertise from our team
• helps quickly find answers to standard questions
• supports work in tax, accounting, and HR processes

Importantly, SMARFEJA does not replace professionals.
It helps reduce time spent on basic tasks, allowing the team to stay focused on more complex and high-value work.

We continue to develop the tool and improve its accuracy.

This weekend, TEDx Ulica Mińska hosted a wonderful event. Our company participated as the lead partner, and we are grateful to the organizers for the opportunity to be part of it.

The day turned out to be perfect: sunny weather, a beautiful location, a wide range of activities, and excellent networking. For us, this was our first experience participating in an event of this format, and it proved to be both engaging and inspiring.

The speakers’ talks impressed us with the diversity of ideas and perspectives. Each speaker shared their own viewpoint and personal story. Events like these create a sense of being part of something larger and open up new opportunities for growth and mutual understanding.

We would like to share an important update regarding our U.S. practice.

Our specialist has obtained the Enrolled Agent (EA) status — a qualification granted by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which authorizes them to officially represent taxpayers.

At the same time, our team is currently undergoing training, and several specialists are already at the final stage of obtaining this status.

The Enrolled Agent designation provides unlimited practice rights.
This means we can work with various types of clients, handle a wide range of tax matters, and interact with the IRS on your behalf.

What this changes in our work:

• preparation and filing of U.S. tax returns
• representation in dealings with the IRS
• handling inquiries, notices, and audits
• support in complex and non-standard tax situations

Previously, some of these tasks required the involvement of external specialists.
Now, this entire scope is handled within our team.

The Enrolled Agent status requires ongoing professional education.
Specialists must complete at least 72 hours of continuing education every three years, including mandatory ethics training.

This ensures that our knowledge remains up to date and aligned with current professional standards.
