No AI generated graphics here. With real Canes fan Roy Cooper at Game 5.

Wild idea: vote for the US Senate candidate who can actually name a Carolina Hurricanes player.

Stanley Cup Final, Game 5, and Lenovo is going to be loud tonight!

Proud to be a Carolina Hurricanes fan. Let’s go win one.

Congrats to Xavier Becerra on a big win in the California Governor’s primary.

I enjoyed welcoming him to my district when I was in Congress and he was HHS Secretary. Smart, thoughtful, and as this photo suggests, kind enough to laugh at my jokes alongside Roy Cooper.

The federal case against Greg Lindberg is not the end of this matter. When I take office as Wake County District Attorney on January 1st, I’ll launch an investigation into possible state criminal charges related to this case.

The federal convictions established serious efforts to corrupt public decision-making in North Carolina and influence state regulators for private gain. North Carolina has its own laws, its own courts, and its own responsibility to hold people accountable when our laws are broken.

The people of this State deserve to know whether North Carolina’s interests have been fully vindicated. If the facts and the law support further action, my office will act immediately.

No federal action can limit North Carolina’s independent authority to enforce state law.

The rule of law still matters here.

One-on-one with Wiley Nickel: Why he seeks more funding, prosecutors for the Wake DA's Office Incoming District Attorney Wiley Nickel is requesting a $603,000 budget appropriation to hire additional staff, citing an understaffing crisis where Wake County prosecutors handle a much larger caseload compared to their Mecklenburg County peers.

Today I had the opportunity to visit SouthLight Healthcare in Raleigh and meet with CEO Adam Hartzell to learn more about the organization’s work serving individuals and families facing mental health and substance use challenges.

For more than 55 years, SouthLight has been a critical part of our community, providing outpatient mental health care, substance use treatment, counseling, recovery support, and opioid treatment services. Their work reflects a simple but important truth: recovery is possible when people have access to compassionate, evidence-based care.

As I prepare to serve as Wake County’s next District Attorney, I know the connection between behavioral health and public safety is impossible to ignore. Too often, untreated mental illness and substance use disorders are at the center of the crises that bring people into contact with the justice system.

Strong partnerships with providers like SouthLight help create better outcomes for individuals, families, and our entire community. I appreciate the chance to see their work firsthand and look forward to building stronger connections between the Wake County DA’s Office and organizations that are restoring lives and renewing hope.

In Mecklenburg County, the average caseload is 960 cases per prosecutor. In Wake County, it’s over 2,400.

That’s not sustainable — and it’s a serious public safety risk.

It means victims wait years, not months, for justice. It means repeat offenders remain on the street much longer. It means Wake County’s justice system is being pushed to its breaking point.

Mecklenburg County is funding its District Attorney’s Office. Wake County should do the same.

I’ve asked the Wake County Board of Commissioners to invest in additional prosecutors and staff so we can reduce caseloads, move cases more efficiently, and keep our community safe.
