The loggerhead shrike is a songbird with the hunting behavior of a tiny predator.

A newly hatched greater honeyguide can be blind, featherlessāand already equipped with a weapon.
Honeyguides are brood parasites that leave their eggs in the nests of other birds.
Their chicks hatch with specialized sharp hooks on their bills. Young honeyguides have been documented using them to attack host chicks, eliminating competitors for the food brought by their foster parents.
Then, as the honeyguide develops, those hooks disappear.

This Octopus Uses Venom on Its Own Mate
The blue-ringed octopus is famous for its extraordinarily potent tetrodotoxin.
But males of at least one species have been observed using that toxin in a completely different situationāmating.
Researchers found that smaller males can bite larger females during mating and deliver tetrodotoxin, temporarily immobilizing them and reducing the danger to the male during the encounter.

How Can a Praying Mantis Keep Mating Without Its Head?
A praying mantis can continue mating even after losing its head.
The reason lies partly in the insect nervous system.
Instead of relying entirely on the brain, insects possess nerve centers called ganglia distributed along the body. These neural circuits can coordinate certain movements even without continuous commands from the brain.
In some species, females may also consume males during matingāa behavior known as sexual cannibalism.
It sounds impossible.
But insect biology operates very differently from our own.
