Walnut Bottoms is a hiking & biking trail in Carthage, MO. It is free and open to the public from sunrise to sunset. The trail is marked by mature woods and Spring River that make for excellent scenery and wildlife activity. Directions to the parking lot: head north of Carthage on Garrison. Turn right (east) off Garrison onto Java Street, then make an immediate right (south) onto Main Street. On your right you'll see a white gravel parking lot, with the Walnut Bottoms sign.

Pop Quiz: What plant is bearing these seed pods right now in Walnut Bottoms (and the rest of SWMO)?
It is a phenomenally beautiful morning in Southwest Missouri! The grass is green, trees are starting to leaf out and the electric pink of blossoming redbuds is highlighting the landscape. Put on your light rain jacket and get outside!
Highs in the 50s and 60s, leaves turning. This weekend is going to phenomenal at Walnut Bottoms. Will you play outside?

Is the fall weather calling your name?
We don't do this often, but will again spread the word about a stellar (AND FREE) local event. The 31st Kids Classic is two weeks away. Active kids are healthy kids. Please share this with your friends, families, and sports teams. Participation is totally free and the first 500 registered get a T-shirt. Kids run distances based on age, from 100yds for pre-school to 1.25 miles for 6th grade. More information on their FB page. We have revised the map to reflect the changes we made to better avoid perpetually wet spots. All of the trail is now marked with orange tape and most of it has been cleared but a few parts of the red and blue loop may have tall grass until we can get a mower out there!

This did not exist two hours ago. Walnut Bottoms trail is always improving; here cutting the blue loop a little higher to keep the trail dry when the water comes up. Enjoy your Bottoms... See you on the trail.
