Carson City Search and Rescue took advantage of our local snow last Saturday during our monthly training. It was a great day to certify new members driving our Ranger UTV with snow tracks. Next, we intentionally stuck one of our Jeeps in the snow to practice off-road recovery. Rounding out the day we simulated an injured hiker who broke their leg and had to be transported back down the mountain.

On Friday, February 20th, Carson City Search and Rescue was dispatched to the McClellan Peak area between Carson City and Washoe Valley. A family of five had become stranded by the recent snow storm that hit our region. Using our tracked Ranger UTV, we were able to safely transport the family back to Carson.

Human Remains Discovered by Carson River
On December 5th, 2025, human remains were discovered by the Carson River, near the Trainwreck Rapids in Brunswick Canyon. Carson City Park Rangers responded to the area and secured the scene for Sheriff’s Detectives.
Carson City Search and Rescue and Detectives worked on December 6th to preserve the scene and recover several pieces of human remains, clothing, and other artifacts. Artifacts located at the scene led investigators to believe the remains possibly belonged to Robert Lawson White, a kayaker who went missing in June 2023, while boating in the Carson River.
White went missing on the same date in 2023 with another kayaker, James Martin, whose dead body was recovered from the river later that summer.
His next of kin has been notified of the progress of the investigation and the need to scientifically confirm the identity of the human remains. The remains were collected by the Coroner and taken to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office for formal identification.
