Jon Mort invites you to a special Artist Presentation 'Human Art In An Artificial World' on Saturday at 1pm as part of his annual summer open studio “Tide Unbound” open August 2nd & 3rd, 10am to 5 pm, at Fieldstone Castle 129 Marshall Pt Rd Port Clyde, Maine 04855. Featured in this exhibition are new works in graphite, colored pencil as well as never seen before limited edition releases from Jon’s Print Portfolio Collection.
Jon shared that he hopes ““Tide Unbound” will draw the viewer into a meditation on the concept of permanence. Each piece is presented as a single fleeting moment that reflects our place in space and time. This collection clearly represents the powerful influence and inspiration the stark beauty of Maine has had on my creative process. Many of the natural objects featured in “Tide Unbound” were discovered on the islands off the coast of Port Clyde”.
While Jon’s startlingly realistic colored pencil & largescale graphite drawings have brought him broad acclaim, he is also a highly sought-after commissioned portrait artist. He received Fine Art and Classics degrees from Franklin and Marshall College and his Masters in Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Jon’s creations have been shown in thirty one-person or group museum and gallery exhibitions. He is represented worldwide by Somerville Manning Gallery and the Carla Massoni Gallery. Jon lives and maintains studios in Washington, DC and Port Clyde, Maine. JonMortStudio.com

Greg Mort Open Studio THE THIRD DIMENSION
Greg Mort will unveil his 2025 Sculpture series “THE THIRD DIMENSION” on August 2nd and 3rd, 10 am to 5 pm at 129 Marshall Pt Rd, Port Clyde, Maine. An Artist Talk will take place Saturday at 1 pm. Best known for his watercolors, oils and pastels, Mort challenged himself to recreate some of his best-known iconic paintings as three-dimensional multimedia sculptures. Inspired by twelve of his most widely recognized paintings he meticulously hand carved each piece from rough cut wood felled at his farm in Ashton, Maryland. Each multimedia sculpture is carefully assembled and hand painted to perfectly reflect his original two-dimensional work of art. Mort explained; “Creating in the third dimension without any artificial or digital aids allows you to visualize the process with limitless freedom. Each piece is a series of problem-solving challenges that offers me a refreshing sense of mystery and accomplishment.”
In addition to creating this new sculpture series in 2025 Mort completed a public space commission titled “Infinite Wonders” for The Lowell Observatory’s new Astronomy Discovery Science Museum. And, for the first time he had an exhibition exclusively featuring his pastel drawings at Somerville Manning Gallery in Greenville, Delaware. Mort’s art has been shown is over one-hundred museum and gallery exhibitions and is part of prominent permanent collections in museums around the world including the Smithsonian, the National Gallery of Art, Portland Museum of Art and many more. This year, Mort was honored that the Delaware Art Museum accented two of his early watercolors “Symphony in White” and “Water Drops”.
Mort has painted all his life and is completely self-taught. He came to Maine for the first time in the summer of 1977 at the invitation of a local St. Goerge family. He has returned every summer since to paint at his studio in Port Clyde. In 1988 he acquired and restored Fieldstone Castle, originally built in 1913 by artist astronomer Russell W. Porter. In 1993 he had a Post and Beam barn built as a studio which he shares with his artist son Jon Mort.
