Barn Owl Garden Center
Barn Owl Garden Center: 20 years of nurturing nature
The Barn Owl was founded 17 years ago with the mission to help our community grow, while growing within the community. It brings our team and our family great pride to help you with any of your outdoor needs, so please don’t think of us as another shop -- think of us as your neighbor.

To the dads who taught us how to plant our first tomatoes, the ones who always know where the good tools are, and the mentors who help us grow: Happy Father's Day!
If you are celebrating a dad today, bring him by the greenhouse for a quiet stroll through the tropicals. We have plenty of low-maintenance houseplants that are perfect for a workspace or patio.
🌿 Open until 4:00 PM today.
Summer has officially arrived at Barn Owl. 🌻
The bees are busy, the flowers are blooming, and every corner of the garden center is full of color.
Stop by and soak it all in.

Opening Today!
We’re a farm stand of fresh local produce in DuPage County, open 7 days a week through October 31.
To kick off the season, you’ll find bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, chard, herbs, kale, lettuce mix, spring onions, spring shallots, radish, French radish, scallions, and summer squash.
Availability will be limited until after the Fourth of July, so the list is shorter to start and will fill out as the season gets going. Come by early for the best pick, and keep checking back as new produce arrives from our farm partners.
Grab a cold brew from Feathered Saddle while you’re here.

Taking a moment today to reflect, listen, and celebrate freedom and community. We are open normal hours, but we encourage everyone to support local Black-owned businesses, makers, and creators in our neighborhood this weekend. Growth takes intention, both in the soil and in our communities.
🌱 Open until 5:00 PM today.

Your houseplants are ready for a summer vacation… but don’t send them straight into full sun. 🌿☀️
Moving your indoor plants outside can lead to bigger growth, stronger stems, and happier tropicals, but the transition needs to be slow. Too much sun, wind, rain, or a surprise Carol Stream downpour can stress them out fast.
Our latest blog breaks down:
• How to transition plants outside safely
• Which plants love the humidity
• Which plants should probably stay indoors
• When to bring them back inside before fall

Your new favorite way to wander Barn Owl ☕+🌿
Grab a Feathered Saddle drink, stroll through the greenhouse, and find your perfect little spot to sip and stay awhile.
Whether you’re tucked between the plants, exploring the garden center, or just taking a quiet minute for yourself, Barn Owl is the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the moment.
Come sip, wander, and hang out with us in Carol Stream.
Plant of the Week : FlowerFull Hydrangea
Meet the FlowerFull Hydrangea (from First Editions), a lovely addition to the local landscape and our Plant of the Week. If you love the massive, cloud-like blooms of a classic Annabelle Hydrangea but dread the inevitable flop after a heavy Midwest downpour, this is the exact upgrade your garden has been waiting for.
Right now, these beauties are just starting to bud up, perfectly matching the timeline of traditional Annabelles. But here is the big difference: while our recent DuPage County summer thunderstorms have knocked down the older varieties, the FlowerFull is holding its head high. It is bred with incredibly tough, resilient stems designed to withstand crazy summer weather.
Why We Love It:
Unshakeable Structure: You get a clean, upright, compact habit that stays neat all season, even through high winds and driving rain.
The Annabelle Appeal: It delivers the exact same stunning, dense white flower heads that make classic smooth hydrangeas a staple of the Illinois garden.
Perfect Timing: Planting now means you get to watch the entire blooming cycle unfold just as summer hits its stride.
Stop by Barn Owl this week and check out our selection of larger plants in the back yard. You can see those sturdy stems in person, and grab a few to weather the summer storms in style.
