In August 2025 we were honored to be awarded The Best of Intima Award for Best Community Support. We have been nominated for The Best of Intima Awards again for 2026.
We do love the recognition. It's nice to be honored by your peers for the work you do. However, we do this - we serve women - because we've been called to do it. For me, this is why I was put on this planet. And I will be here with Uplift for as long as I'm able. There is no "Plan B."
It will be fun to see what category we may land in this year. However, we'll keep doing what we do, the way we do it, no matter the outcome.

n World War I 9-11 million members of the militaries world wide lost their lives. At the time it was the world’s deadliest conflict. During World War II, the death toll was estimated to be 21-25 million military personnel. These are staggering numbers. How is it that a small red flower, the poppy, serves as a reminder of these and other deaths that continue to accumulate?
After World War I, bright red poppies began growing across the battlefields of Belgium and northern France, especially in an area called Flanders Fields. The soil had been disturbed by fighting, allowing poppy seeds to bloom where soldiers had died.
This image inspired the famous 1915 poem “In Flanders Fields” by John McCrae:
“In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row…” (https://www.poetryfoundation.org/.../in-flanders-fields).
The poem so moved people around the world and connected the poppy with honoring fallen soldiers. The poppy represents:
• Remembrance of military members who died in service
• Sacrifice and courage during war
• Peace and renewal, since flowers grew from devastated battlefields.
What we do on Memorial Day matters. If a military death has not affected you personally, chances are good it has for someone you know. Remember, freedom is never free.
