Creating worlds for words to live in though watercolor, ink, and calligraphy.

Here is a new icon installation in our parish over the past couple of weeks! I just had to study how he installed these ceiling icons! I could have stood there all day. The icons are written in Europe in the iconographers’ home country and then brought here to the states. The Saints lining the walls include newly canonized St. Olga of Alaska, who was a midwife for the women of her small village, cared for the abused, and whose children are still living. All who knew her speak of her with love. Many around the world have seen her appearing to them in dreams to help them. I just watched the documentary, “Sacred Alaska” for the first time last night and will be watching it with my kids many many times!

I have a rare afternoon out to draw for the book now that my littlest can go longer without me. I am so so close to completing nearly 30 drawings created in bits and pieces of downtime stitched together over three years. I’m making sure the visual story is complete.
My heart and body are hungering for quiet and reflection these days in a house with four kids. We are together ALL the time. 😅😂 It’s next to impossible to focus on any personal projects without jumping back in to the next room to meet a need in this season, so out I go. I look at them, though, more and more and sigh with gratitude that I have the life I’ve always wanted and dreamed about in my early twenties. See, I can’t even go out by myself without thinking of them. 😉 So, I’m popping in to say hello and share a musing and a friend who found me today. God’s fingerprints and goodness everywhere. ♥️

How could it be? How could it be that in a few short hours it will be 8 years since I met my first son? Eight is not so little anymore. He has requested a sleepover with me tonight AND tomorrow night, and, of course, I said yes. I have it on good authority that this will not always be the case. I promised him that at 9:08 tomorrow morning, I will sweep him up in the middle of whatever he is doing (because I can still do that) and tell him the story of our birth. Again. Oh, dear, sweet, bold one, you have made me who I am!

Doubleposting today 💁♀️ because it was perfection. What a delicious gift on a heart-heavy day.
Here’s a little update on the storybook. I’m finding my stride and confidence in these drawings as I move from simpler designs to more complex. I am also focusing on hands especially because mine tend to look like mittens. Im trying not to take shortcuts.
➡️… and the sweetest surprise at the end because I’m so proud of him. My oldest has begun copying and drawing the covers of his favorite children’s books. Can you guess? Did I ever think he would create something like this willingly? No. We make space for art during the days because I genuinely love it, but I don’t force it. I hope they absorb good taste and creativity for themselves, but they also get to like what they like. It’s so beautiful to see my sons bloom in their own unique way and time. 🌻 What gift or love of yours comes out naturally in your home and throughout your days?
