Teachers know that the best lesson plans are the ones that still work when things don't go exactly as planned.
Leadership is no different.
The strongest schools and organizations aren't built on heroic effort—they're built on systems that support people, priorities, and long-term growth.
That's why I'm excited about Courtney De Ronde's new book, Planning to Scale. Her work through Scaling Leader has influenced so much of our thinking around planning, leadership, and sustainable growth at SIS.
While the book is written for business leaders, I think many school and district leaders will connect with the ideas around clarity, alignment, and building systems that help organizations thrive long term.

Summer math doesn’t have to mean worksheets and flashcards spread all over the kitchen table. ☀️
Kids keep their math skills strongest when they’re playing, talking, building, noticing patterns, and thinking naturally throughout the day.
A simple card game.
A quick number challenge.
A hands-on activity before heading outside.
Those little moments add up. 💛
That’s why we've created easy grab-and-go math games ready for summer. The math4summer Parent Boxes (K-2, and 3-5) give families everything they need to keep math thinking going without it feeling like “school at home.”
Because the goal isn’t more packets.
It’s helping kids stay confident, curious, and connected to math all summer long. ✨

Such a simple idea…such a big impact. 👏
A brilliant teacher at Perry Elementary (Ypsilanti Community Schools) came up with a fun way to help students remember which way to clear the Counting Buddy: she added a smiley face and feet to either side of the whiteboard so students know exactly which way to push the beads before each numeracy talk!
Small visual supports like this can make routines smoother, increase independence, and keep the focus on mathematical thinking instead of directions. 💡
Sometimes the best classroom ideas are the ones that come straight from teachers in the moment. ❤️

There’s nothing better than spending the day in classrooms alongside teachers and students. 🎥
Yesterday, we were filming inside two of our partner schools, capturing incredible math instruction in action, including meaningful numeracy talks, fraction number talks, student thinking, and real classroom routines.
A huge thank you to Perry Elementary or welcoming us in the morning — especially Ms. Englehardt’s 1st grade class and Ms. Brooks’ Kindergarten class. 💙
And thank you to Holmes Elementary for an amazing afternoon with Ms. Lee’s 2nd graders and Ms. Jones’ 5th graders!

Want to mix things up in your math class? 👀
You can tell a lot about a classroom by who’s doing the talking—and even more by where students are working.
Next week's SIS Insiders email breaks down how this one shift can immediately change participation in your math class.

One thing we hear from teachers all the time? ESGI helps them actually see student growth.
Especially this time of year, having quick, clear data makes small groups easier, helps identify who still needs support, and saves teachers so much time.
It’s also one of those tools that helps you head into next year feeling organized instead of starting from scratch.
If you’ve been meaning to try it, this is a really good time! Teachers who start a free trial through my link get extended access through the end of September, plus bonus giveaway perks right now 🤩
