Not what I would call light summer reading. Impressive and heavy ( both literally and literary).

Schiedmayer clavichord kit with custom inlays. Nothing is “run of the mill” here. Keep in mind, as I use materials from Europe and Canada, there will be a 250% tarriff for all card carrying fascists. All others may apply for a waiver.
Beginning February 2025 we are imposing a 100% “fascist tariff” on all instruments and kits. If you are currently a fascist, hope to one day become a fascist, or support fascists in anyway, please find another keyboard builder to work with. We will not support your endeavors while you while actively attempt to destroy America.

You may think that plastic harpsichord jacks have no place in the modern clavichord/harpsichord builders shop. Not so for me. Here I use old E.Herz “blanks” as mini go bars when gluing on clavichord key tails. They have a good flex and resistance to glue.
Incidentally I still have a good supply of old/new stock of Herz jacks. These have been carefully stored for 30 years. I had thought that they would’ve degraded regardless of use but they appear and behave as if they were made yesterday.

Gluing up clavichord keyboard panels while the temps have dropped precipitously outside. I give myself a little extra help by warming the joints on the stove. BTW, that blue cup is my coffee not the glue pot.

Pick your poison.
American Cherry, White Oak, or Mahogany and Satinwood. A couple of babies in Oak and Cherry as well.

This “Hubert” style clavichord is just about ready to leave the shop. American Cherry, curly Maple, and a beautiful tone. FYI, the dog stays.

Spent the early morning glue sizing various oak clavichord pieces. At a point I looked down to see my glue brush in my coffee cup. How long had I been sizing with coffee and drinking glue is anybody’s guess.

Breaking into a Flitch of spruce that I had prepared (resawn and milled) way back in June of 1990. These are 6mm thick. This brings me back to my first days of clavichord building.
