Did you know 34,150 fair housing complaints were filed in the United States in 2023? Which is the most complaints that have been filed since the Act was enacted. 52.61% of the complaints were based on housing discrimination due to disability.
Did you know that if you receive social security benefits due to a disability and receive your funds after rent is due, you can request a reasonable accommodation to pay your rent after receiving your funds?
Did you know that if you have an assistance animal due to a disability, your housing provider cannot deny you the right to have it and cannot make you pay a pet deposit or pet fee? You are permitted to provide your housing provider with a letter from a third party that can verify your disability and the need for the assistance animal. You do not have to provide a letter if your disability is visible.

It's National Community Development Week!
Enacted by Congress in 1974 under the Housing and Community Development Act and signed into law by President Gerald Ford on August 22, 1974, the program officially turned 50 on August 22, 2024. The Act consolidated eight federal programs into one block grant – CDBG – and sent decision making for issues to local governments. CDBG provides funding to communities across the country to address infrastructure, economic development, housing, disaster recovery, and other community needs. The program provides local communities like Canton with the flexibility to design and implement strategies tailored to meet local needs and priorities.
