I am happy to announce that my first publication as first author has been just published. It has been a four month of endless nights. As someone coming from a practised-based maker background, doing a PhD Elisava feels like i have to rewire my brain, working directly on the motherboard. It is hard and it is just the beginning.
In this paper, I trace how Textile and Technology Academy in their quest for more sustainable practices through material tinkering methodologies reframe the field of through .

This paper explores bio-based soft actuators as an emerging design-oriented innovation in Human Computer Interaction (HCI), examining how their adoption evolves within distributed, hybrid, lab-based educational programs. Through a longitudinal corpus analysis of the Fabricademy course open repository, the study analyses how participants integrate biomaterials into a soft robotics learning module and final projects. Combining quantitative and qualitative methods, the research traces the development of “biobotic” practices, revealing adoption supported by peer referencing and shared fabrication workflows. Two final projects illustrate iterative development and applications in HCI contexts. The findings identify persistent challenges, heterogeneous documentation quality and key affordances of bio-based actuators. Building on these insights, the paper discusses how biodesign challenges current practices in soft robotics design education and positions the repository as a living archive enabling iterative prototyping and sustainable material-driven interaction design.

Leather molding the five senses!
Conceptualized with the brain, visualized with AI, 3D designed in Rhinoceros and Fusion360, fabricated at TMDC, sewn by See you leather and installed at Leather Cluster in Igualada for the Rec festival.
I am very happy to have worked in this project, under the leadership of Miguel Guerrero Piñarto bring to life those sculptures!
I have been researching on the ancient craft of Leather moulding techniques for the last 10 years and I am fanatic admirer of the work of kofta
Leather Molding is the technique I am teaching within the Fabricademy 6 month course during the Textile Scaffold Module, where participants learn how to 3D model, prepare their files for CNC milling, fabricate them and mould the leather on their parametric patterns!

A few months ago, within the context of festival in Igualada, I got invited by to propose some artistic installations exploring leather as a material that wakes up our senses.
The 💡 idea was "the leather essence," human figure-size installations, each one focusing on our senses: smell, touch, sight, taste, and sound. I drafted some quick sketches for each of the sculptures, thinking of different interactions, textures, and techniques! As time was not on our side, I decided to use .ai to make quick renders of my ideas, and I was blown away by the results.
Our challenge was to fabricate those renders! With .studio as a leader and .es as the production space, we made a team for the leather moulding and .leather for the sewing!
All the designs were made in Rhinoceros with grasshopper, producing ready to laser cut files both for the wooden waffle structure and for the leather patterns.
In a month, we installed 3 sculptures:
The sight: a hanging illuminated eye 👁 shaped with controlable leds
The smell: a perforated scented smoke emitting sculpture
The touch: A leather moulded forest of leaves
Using AI rendering and later creating the real fabrication was a delight of a process! It was so easy to communicate with the client about what we were imagining.
